Hospital Alcohol and Other Drugs Consultation Liaison (AOD‑CL) services play a key role in assessing and managing AOD related conditions during hospital visits, either to the Emergency Department or on wards. The central aim of AOD‑CL is to enhance safety, clinical outcomes, quality and efficiency of services for patients with substance use disorders in hospital settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with emergency department, inpatient wards, mental health inpatient units, and community alcohol and other drug providers to ensure integrated, seamless care pathways, including effective discharge planning and referral.
- Build the capability of hospital and inpatient mental health staff through mentoring, education, and participation in quality improvement and clinical governance activities, aligning practice with the NSW Health Hospital Drug & Alcohol Consultation Liaison Model of Care and the NSW Health Clinical Care Standards for Alcohol and Other Drugs Treatment.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse/Midwife.
- Minimum five years full‑time equivalent post‑registration experience, including at least three years in the drug and alcohol specialty, and postgraduate qualifications relevant to the field.
- NSW Working with children clearance.
- Compliance with vaccination category A.
- Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel as required.

Remuneration: $149,408.12 – $152,392.73 per annum (+ super +17.5% leave loading where applicable)
