Graphic Designer position in North QLD: create print, digital, and video assets to support community and stakeholder engagement programs

- Job Title: Graphic Designer – Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Location: Cairns or Townsville, QLD (Hybrid – up to 50% remote options available)
- Contract Duration: September 2026 – June 2027 (Potential 2 x 12-month extensions)
- Work Type: Full-Time (40 hours per week)
- Pay Rate: $69 – $75 per hour + super

About the Role

A major QLD state government department is seeking an experienced AO5 Graphic Designer to join their Communications and Stakeholder Management team. In this role, you will create visually compelling content across print, digital, videography, and online platforms to support key community engagement programs across North Queensland.

Key Responsibilities

- Creative Production: Design and produce a wide range of materials including social media assets, videos, newsletters, brochures, displays, maps, presentations, and digital/print advertisements.
- Strategic Design Advice: Provide expert advice on visual design, digital communication, asset production, and government branding standards to internal stakeholders and executives.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Translate complex information into clear, accessible, and engaging visual solutions while building strong internal relationships.
- Vendor Management: Liaise with external suppliers (printers, illustrators, videographers, animators) to ensure high-quality, brand-consistent production.
- Workflow & Quality Control:



Manage multiple competing priorities using project management tools to deliver projects on time, within budget, and in line with accessibility guidelines.
- Collaboration: Partner with graphic design teams across the wider department to maintain brand consistency and share technical best practices.

Requirements

- Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Accessibility Knowledge: Understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), including creating accessible PDFs and Word documents.
- Corporate Experience: Proven track record delivering cutting-edge design solutions within large corporate or government environments.
- Project Management: Ability to independently manage complex projects, adapt to shifting priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-Oriented: Exceptional organizational skills with strict adherence to corporate branding and style guidelines.

Desirable Criteria

- 5+ years of experience in visual communication, graphic design, or digital design.
- Tertiary qualification in Graphic Design or a related field.
- Knowledge of Queensland Government processes and policies.
