The Role The Learning and Development Officer is responsible for the routine oversight and control of the operational and administrative outputs of the Languages-Army Team to facilitate Army personnel being panelled for: language aptitude testing; Language Placement/Qualification (P/Q) Testing; and for Defence-sponsored language courses.
The Administration Manager manages the procedural, administrative and business support tasks of the team IAW relevant Defence work practices, procedures and policies to ensure that the people that deliver Army’s Language Other Than English (LOTE) Capability are administered and remunerated appropriately.
The Administration Manager supports the SO2 Manager Languages-Army (MLA) in the provision of global languages expertise and a deep understanding of Defence’s frameworks for the training and administration of Army’s linguists to ensure the Army is best able to fulfil the increasing number of tasks that require the language interpreters and translators to deliver this niche capability for Defence.
About our Team Employed within the Army G7 and led by the SO2 MLA, the Languages-Army Team is responsible for operationalising Army’s Language Capability by leading the design and implementation of how Army manages languages, ensuring linguistic excellence remains a critical enabler for operational effectiveness and international partnerships.
The team is responsible for integrating Army with Defence Language Networks by acting as the Army’s principal link to Defence’s Qualified Language Network to ensure Army’s commands and formations have the right interpreters and/or translators for task and mission requirements.
This also includes strengthening Language Workforce Development by formalising and maturing the mentoring networks across the Army’s language groups to build depth, professionalism and a future-ready language capability as part of the Integrated Force.

The ideal candidate for this role must be someone that is an excellent communicator who can collaborate effectively with a diverse team that includes both full-time uniformed and APS staff, as well as part-time uniformed staff.
They must be highly organised in the management of workplace correspondence; able to effectively prioritise required outputs; effectively respond to direction from the SO2 MLA; as well as provide appropriate direction to, and management of, the Administration Officer as the one appointed subordinate to the position. It is desirable if the successful candidate has prior experience working with international partners, including having LOTE skills and interpreter experience.
