We are seeking a talented Senior AI Designer to join our dynamic team at Hangar 13, a dedicated studio within 2K. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for developing advanced AI systems and behaviors that elevate gameplay and create immersive experiences for players. Your expertise will be essential in analyzing interactions between players and AI, allowing you to design creative features that resonate with our audience.

What you’ll do -

- Lead the entire process of developing, designing, and implementing sophisticated AI behaviors and systems for both combat and non-combat NPCs, from the initial prototype phase to the final product launch.
- Design and implement new character archetypes, including their unique abilities and logic, ensuring they align with the overarching vision of the game while enhancing the overall gameplay experience.
- Collaborate closely with various disciplines within feature pods, including Engineering, Animation, and Gameplay, to effectively implement, refine, and balance AI systems and player interactions.
- Create AI behaviors that clearly communicate intentions to players, enabling them to strategize their actions effectively and enhancing their engagement with the game.
- Collect and analyze feedback from team members and external user testing to iteratively improve the AI experience and ensure it meets player expectations.
- Advocate for and establish best practices in AI content creation and system utilization throughout the design team, fostering a culture of excellence.
- Develop and maintain thorough design documentation for the features and core AI systems you oversee, ensuring clarity and accessibility for the team.




- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in AI technology to continually enhance the quality of the AI systems you design.

Requirements

- A strong passion for creating complex and balanced AI systems that significantly enhance player experiences.
- A solid understanding of current industry trends, features, and techniques related to engaging AI development.
- Proven experience with advanced AI systems, such as Behavior Trees and State Trees, in a production environment.
- A track record of successfully designing and delivering intricate, engaging behaviors for both combat and non-combat NPCs.
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, with a history of achieving consensus to deliver high-quality results.
- Proficiency in Unreal Engine, showcasing your ability to work effectively within this platform.
- Prior experience in an AI Design role or a similar position, having contributed to the successful launch of one or more AAA game titles.

- A comprehensive understanding of game design principles and how AI, tactical space, and player actions interact to create memorable gameplay moments.
- Strong creative problem-solving skills, capable of addressing both detailed and broader challenges in AI design.
- Experience in prioritizing and scheduling work for assigned features, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality content.
- The ability to independently tackle technical challenges related to your features, demonstrating initiative and resourcefulness.

Skills & tools

- Proficiency in Unreal Engine
- Familiarity with AI design methodologies, including Behavior Trees and State Trees
- Competence in using documentation and design tools to create clear and accessible design materials
