Youth Justice Worker - Night Shift / Malmsbury

- Earn up to $99,645 per year, on a base of $62,104 (including standard penalty rates).

Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct has reopened and will house a small group of young men in custody (young people) aged 17 and over.

Night youth justice workers are the frontline staff who will supervise and support young people overnight at Malmsbury.

About the role

This is not a security job with long stretches of downtime. You will speak directly to young people throughout the night, typically through their intercom. When they feel vulnerable, they may reach out. Some conversations will be raw and personal. You will listen with care and compassion while still keeping firm boundaries.

You will also:

- conductregular wellbeing checks of young people
- redirect anti-social and challenging behaviour
- monitor CCTV,complete compliance reporting andrespond to any alarms
- respond to incidentsas they occur
- facilitate supportfrom other services, including health and mental health providers, educators and disability organisations.

We're currently offering up to $10,000 as a relocation allowanceto help cover costs for eligible candidates who are interested in moving to within an hour's drive of the facility.

About you

Being a youth justice worker on the night shift isn't for everyone.



But our high-performing staff take pride in the work and appreciate the freedom it gives them in the rest of their lives.

This could be a outstanding role for you if you are:

- mature and steady under pressure
- a great listener
- able to build rapport and negotiate effectively with young people
- looking for a night role that frees up some daytime hours to enjoy other things you're passionate about.

To be considered for a youth justice worker role you must be either:

- an Australian citizen – a birth certificate, citizenship certificate or current passport is required as proof of eligibility
- a permanent resident of Australia
- a New Zealand citizen who has entered Australia on a valid passport, or eligible to work in Australia for a period of more than six months.

Prior to starting work, all successful candidates must independently obtain:

- current First Aid Certification (HLTAID011)
- current CPR Certification
- a valid Working with Children Check (Employee).

Please note, all certificates must be valid for at least three months from employment start date.
