Frieda River Limited is the developer of the Frieda River Copper-Gold Project in Sandaun Province, Papua New Guinea (PNG). This national priority project represents one of the world’s largest known undeveloped copper and gold deposits, which will become a long-life open-pit operation. PanAust Limited, an Australian-headquartered company with successful world-class mining operations in Laos, wholly owns Frieda River Limited (FRL).

Reporting to the Project Director Frieda River, you will be responsible for engaging with the PNG Government and its regulatory bodies to support the Project, routine interaction and ongoing stakeholder engagement with local landowner communities, and management of a portfolio of health, education, and infrastructure development projects.

ThisBrisbane based role is an exciting career opportunity for an experienced professional with proven country management, exceptional stakeholder engagement experience, and a track record of meeting critical community milestones to support the permitting process.

Your key responsibilities will include:

- Strategically manage the process leading to approval of a Special Mining Lease (SML) for Frieda River including input into the Feasibility Study, the EIS, MDC, the Development Forum and MOA Plan and Landholder Compensation Agreements
- Leverage from Australian, China and PNG trilateral relations for the benefit of the project including opportunities for funding of programmes and infrastructure
- Represent PanAust in joint venture meetings and other forums
- Develop and maintain strong and structured government relationships in PNG and elsewhere in the region to support PanAust’s Frieda River Project development and future expansion




- Develop and implement strategies to inform government authorities at all levels regarding the development of the project
- Maintain relationships with other external stakeholders such as related government agencies, Shareholder entities, tenement holders, power development companies and other agencies such as banks and NGOs
- Coordinate external and internal communication strategies for Frieda River that foster fair, honest and transparent dealings with our key stakeholders and enhance provincial, national and international perceptions aligned to Company objectives
- Support negotiations/implementation of agreements or contracts struck directly with government authorities, agencies and commercial businesses in the region
- Participate in industry bodies and/or represent the company in government sponsored forums
- Facilitate business meetings (PNG, Australia and China) on behalf of other Frieda River and/or PanAust representatives
- Develop, manage and maintain a Port Moresby presence when required for official meetings

To be successful in this role, you will require:

- Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, social planning/community development, natural resources management, or related fields.
- Being able to read, write and speak Tok Pisin is highly beneficial for this position and will be held in high regard.
- Extensive community affairs experience in mining within PNG.
- Excellent working knowledge and best practice stakeholder engagement theory and practice.
- Proven expertise in delivering community development projects on time and within budget.
- Strong leadership skills, including management of consultants.
- Focus on delivering high-quality outcomes in a agile environment.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Highly effective liaison and negotiation skills inpotentiallycomplex and sensitive situations.
- The ability to anticipate risks and proactively prevent or resolve issues that arise.
- High levels of personal and professional ethics and integrity.
