Established on 1 July 2026 Safe Food Victoria regulates Victoria’s food system to make sure public health is protected, and businesses are supported to grow.

Safe Food Victoria regulates more than 112,000 food businesses in Victoria, including:8,500 meat, seafood, poultry and pet food licences2,800 dairy licences, andco-regulation (with Councils) of more than 100,000 other food businesses.

Safe Food Victoria is a statutory authority of the Victorian Government.

The role

The Senior Investigations Officer is a keymember of the Food Safety Integrity and Response team at Safe Food Victoria (SFV). The role is responsible for conducting investigations of food safety incidents and food related harm and coordinating the Safe Food Victoria response. It will provide leadership, insight and advice during investigations, determine most the appropriate course of action under relevant legislation and provide the linkage between the public health team within the Chief Health Officer (CHO) office and the SFV Operations teams.

The role will contribute to a small team responsible for the management of recalls and provision of advice, education and support to Environmental Health Officers responsible for food safety regulation at local government level.

The person

We are seeking an individual with the following expertise to support the organisation at this exciting time.

Tertiary qualifications or equivalent in food science, science or a related discipline

Certificate IV in Government Investigations (desirable)

Environmental Health Officer qualifications and experience (desirable)

Experience in food safety or public health investigations (desirable)

Additional capabilities

Robust communications skills and the ability to connect with a broad range of stakeholders at all levels of organisations.
