Team
Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is the largest hospital and the major referral centre; it provides support for around 250,000 Tasmanians in the southern region. The lactation consultancy service delivers lactation care primarily across the Women's, Adolescent and Children's Services (WACS) providing clinical specialist care to staff, patients and their families requiring lactation support, skills and education. The RHH is proudly a Baby Friendly accredited hospital, which incorporates the 10 steps to successful breast feeding to protect, promote and support breastfeeding as part of a global partnership developed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
Role
As the Clinical Nurse/Midwife Specialist - Lactation Consultancy Service, you will provide specialist breastfeeding and lactation support to women, babies and families across Women's, Adolescent and Children's Services. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver evidence-based care, provide specialist advice, support education for staff and families, and contribute to service improvement, quality initiatives and clinical best practice.
You will need
- Strong clinical expertise in lactation and breastfeeding support.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with patients, families and healthcare professionals.
- Experience delivering education and support to staff and families.
- The ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while providing specialist clinical advice and guidance.
- A commitment to quality improvement,
evidence-based practice and positive outcomes for mothers and babies.
Details of appointment
Permanent, part time, shift worker position, working up to 24 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
$109,767 to $115,813 pro rata per annum + our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse or Midwife
- Accredited with the International Board of Lactation Consultants.
- Current Working with Children Registration
