Casual Melb Drama Teacher- Do you love Drama and Teaching?
Love teaching but not ready for the full-time classroom? Want to use your skills in a fun, creative way? Join Drama Toolbox and experience the joy of teaching creatively through drama.
For 30 years we have been sparking imaginations through drama incursions across Melbourne and Sydney. Every day, our teachers create magic in classrooms — and leave students and teachers grinning from ear to ear.
The Role
As a Casual Drama Toolbox Teacher , you’ll take your love of teaching on the road, delivering 1–5 lively drama workshops per day in primary schools, preschools, and childcare centres across Melbourne metro .
This is not your standard teaching job. No endless admin. No parent emails. No assessment data. Just pure teaching – using drama, imagination and creativity to engage children.
It’s the perfect role for a graduate or returning teacher into the workforce who:
- isn’t ready to commit to classroom teaching,
- wants variety and flexibility, and
- loves making learning exciting.
You’ll work 3–5 days a week (mainly during school terms), blending half and full-day sessions depending on bookings. While casual by contract, this is an ongoing role with long-term support and investment in you.
Why You’ll Love It
At Drama Toolbox, we do things differently:
- Work-life balance — school hours, school terms. If you want to work in term breaks—great, we’ll have work for you.
- No admin — just turn up and teach. Once you have our comprehensive lesson plans under your belt you really do — just turn up and teach.
- Paid training & professional development — we invest in you
- Consistent roster — 3–5 days per week
- Travel allowance & uniforms provided
- Supportive mentoring — you’ll never feel alone
- Minimum 3 hours pay per shift
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Bachelor of Education qualification specialised in either Primary or Early Childhood education.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children in educational settings (primary or preschool-aged groups), with a strong preference for candidates who have primary classroom teaching experience but also love working with preschoolers.
- A natural performer who can captivate a room with storytelling and lots of energy.
- Confident in classroom management, with strong time management skills.
- Versatile, reliable, and able to travel to schools and early childhood services anywhere across metropolitan Melbourne. This role requires regular travel throughout the entire Melbourne metro area.
You’ll also need:
- Your own reliable car and full drivers licence
- Space at home to store teaching kits
- A valid Working With Children Check
- To live within easy reach of our Mitcham office (Whitehorse region) to pick up and drop off kits on a regular basis
Ready to Join Us?
If you’re excited by the idea of inspiring students without the pressures of a traditional classroom, we’d love to hear from you!
We require all applications via the SEEK portal but if you would like more information please email Kirsten at *****@thedramatoolbox.com.au for a full Position Description.
