About the role
We are seeking an experienced Asbestos and Hazardous Materials Consultant to join our Sydney office in Concord NSW on a full-time basis. This is a strategic role within our growing consultancy, where you will take a lead position in delivering specialist asbestos and hazardous materials assessments, compliance advice and risk management services to our diverse client base.
As Asbestos and Hazardous Materials Consultant, you will be instrumental in supporting our clients' duty of care obligations, conducting detailed site investigations and providing expert recommendations that directly impact workplace safety and environmental protection. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-profile projects whilst building and maintaining strong client relationships across the construction, property management, manufacturing and facility management sectors.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive asbestos surveys and hazardous materials assessments across residential, commercial and industrial properties
- Develop and deliver detailed reports with risk assessments,
compliance recommendations and remediation strategies aligned with current legislation and standards
- Provide specialist advice to clients on asbestos management plans, duty of care obligations and legislative compliance under the Work Health and Safety Act
- Perform site inspections and sampling of suspected asbestos-containing materials and other hazardous substances, ensuring proper health and safety protocols
- Liaise with clients, contractors and regulatory authorities to ensure projects are completed to specification and within agreed timelines
- Develop and implement quality assurance procedures for asbestos identification and hazardous materials testing
- Mentor and guide junior consultants and support team members in developing their technical expertise
- Stay current with changes to legislation, standards and best practice in asbestos management and hazardous materials assessment
- Contribute to the development of training materials and delivery of workplace safety awareness programmes
What we're looking for
- Formal qualifications in environmental science, geology, occupational hygiene, environmental health or related discipline
- Minimum 3-5 years' professional experience in asbestos surveying, hazardous materials assessment or related environmental consultancy work
- Current accreditation as an Asbestos Assessor or equivalent recognised qualification under the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations
- Demonstrated knowledge of Australian asbestos legislation, including the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, Reg and asbestos COPs
- Strong understanding of hazardous materials identification, including lead-based paint, PCBs, mould and other environmental contaminants
- Proven experience in conducting site surveys, taking samples and producing professional technical reports
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
- Proficiency with relevant software and preferably also data management systems
- Current driver's licence and willingness to travel across Sydney and surrounding regions
- Preferred: Experience with contaminated land assessment, building condition surveys or occupational hygiene monitoring
