Thermawood Boroondara is the Melbourne installer of the Thermawood retrofit double glazing system — a patented method that keeps original window frames and converts them into thermally efficient double-glazed units. Done right, it turns a draughty 100-year-old Victorian into something you'd be proud to live in.
We're looking for a Team Leader to run our Melbourne install crew on retrofit projects across Victoria — almost exclusively (~95%) residential, with a focus on timber sashes, heritage windows, and restoration-grade work.
It's precision work. It's not rip-and-replace.
We'll train you on the Thermawood process from day one. What we need you to bring is trade-grade craftsmanship, leadership, and the kind of work ethic that doesn't need babysitting.
What You'll Actually Do
- Run a crew of 1–2 installers on residential retrofit jobs across metro Melbourne.
- Own the install from van-load to customer sign-off.
- Learn and deliver the Thermawood process to spec.
- Toolbox meetings, daily scheduling, on-site problem-solving.
- Handle client interactions on-site — professional, clear, direct.
- Quality control — if it's not right, we fix it. Our name's on it.
- End-of-day reports into ServiceM8 + quick summary to the boss.
- Mentor and sign off installers as they progress through the Thermawood pathway.
What You Bring
- 5+ years in construction, carpentry, joinery, or similar trade.
- Previous supervisory / leadership experience on-site — at least running a 2-man crew.
- Timber window, sash, or heritage joinery experience is a big plus (not a dealbreaker — we'll teach you).
- Ability to read plans, take measurements, mark out accurately.
- Confident with power tools: rail saw, multi-tool, drop saw,
pin gun.
- Calm under pressure. Clients can be fussy. Your job is to handle it.
- White Card, driver's licence, reliable transport.
Why This Job Isn't Like Others
- Residential only, no mega-sites, no high-vis drama. You work in people's homes, do a clean job, leave it better than you found it.
- Skilled work, not grunt work. The Thermawood process rewards care and precision over speed-for-speed's-sake.
- Pay reflects outcomes, not just hours. If you're efficient, get it right first time, and lead the crew well, there's no ceiling on what we'll pay — we don't have a wage cap for performers.
- Real progression — Start with a trial and move up as your Thermawood ticket grows. Experienced TLs at our shop earn well above standard award rates, and there's no wage cap for the right operator.
- Reliable work. Retrofit double glazing is growing fast as homeowners chase energy efficiency. Work isn't going anywhere.
The Process
- Apply with your resume + a short cover note.
- Phone call with the owner.
- Day on-site with the current crew — paid — we both see if it's a fit.
- Move to full rates as you prove the work.
Application Questions
- Do you have the legal right to work in Australia? (Yes/No)
- How many years experience do you have in construction, carpentry, or joinery?
- How many years in a supervisory / team-leading role?
- Do you have experience working with timber windows, sash repair, or heritage joinery? (Yes/No — details if yes)
- Do you hold a valid White Card? (Yes/No)
- Do you have a current driver's licence + reliable transport? (Yes/No)
- Why are you interested in retrofit double glazing specifically? (1–3 sentences)
