Mission Software Systems (MSS) brings togetherexpertiseacross intelligence, software, and cloud to deliver end-to-end capability supporting the full intelligence lifecycle, from planning through to dissemination and feedback. The team fosters a culture of innovation,leveragingmodern engineering practices and shared infrastructure to rapidly build, test, and deploy software solutions across a range of environments, including cloud. The Opportunity

This role is an opportunity to contribute toBureau of Meteorology’s missionby delivering outcomes that matter. You will workas part of a multidisciplinary engineering teamtounderstandpriorities, solveproblemsand support delivery ofgeospatial solutions.





The successful candidate willbe requiredtoparticipatein a rotating on-call roster to support 24x7 operations of ourhighly availableplatform.

In this role, you will:

- Work within a sustainment-focused engineering team supporting and enhancing existing geospatial platforms that underpin critical program outcomes, ensuring systemsremainreliable,and fit for purpose.

- Develop andmaintainPython-based solutions to process, manage, and serve geospatial data, contributing to ongoing improvements and operational support activities.

- Build capability in map caching technologies such asMapCache, adapting and optimising services and workflows to improveperformance and scalability of geospatial applications.

- Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to troubleshoot issues, implement enhancements, and support integration across GIS platforms and supporting services within a dynamic delivery environment.

About You

We are looking for someone who brings judgement, curiosity and a collaborative approach to work that matters.

Essential for this role:

- Experience developing software using Python, ideally in data processing, backend services, or similar environments.

- Exposure to geospatial data concepts, formats, or workflows, with the ability to work effectively with spatial datasets.

- Experience supporting and improving existing systems, includingtroubleshootingandmaintainingapplications in a live environment.

- Ability to work within an agile team, contributing to design, development, testing, and deployment activities.

- Understanding of software engineering practices such as version control, code review, and automated testing.
