Join our In-house Legal team as a Senior Lawyer in Brisbane/Berrinba on a fixedterm temporary basis to 30 June 2027. You will provide expert legal advice and manage complex litigation, appeals and prosecutions, primarily supporting the National Fire Ant Eradication Program and broader Appeals and Prosecutions work. The Business and Corporate Partnership (BCP) division provides strategic advice, leads key programs implementation and delivers corporate services that enable the department to achieve its objectives.

As a Senior Lawyer (PO5) within In-house Legal, Business and Corporate Partnership, you will provide legal advice and representation to the Department of Primary Industries and the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development. The role primarily supports the National Fire Ant Eradication Program while contributing to broader Appeals and Prosecutions work.
In this role, you will provide high-level oral and written legal advice on complex and sensitive matters, manage compliance-related litigation, prosecutions, statutory appeals and tribunal matters, and appear as an advocate or instruct external legal providers in a range of courts and tribunals. You will also report on litigation matters to senior leaders, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support development of team members.
Success in this role will come from your ability to deliver sound legal outcomes,
manage competing priorities, assess complex evidence, build productive relationships and maintain high professional standards while working with limited supervision.
