The ETL Developer designs, builds, tests, deploys, and supports SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages to move and transform data from multiple sources into SQL Server (and related platforms) for reporting, analytics, and operational use, with strong focus on reliability, performance, and data quality.
What you'll be doing
- Gather and analyse requirements; produce source-to-target mappings and ETL design.
- Develop, enhance, and maintain SSIS packages using Control Flow/Data Flow, variables, parameters, and expressions.
- Implement data extraction and ingestion from common sources (SQL Server, Oracle, flat files, APIs).
- Build transformations (lookups, merges, aggregations, derived columns) and load patterns (full/incremental, SCD where applicable).
- Implement robust error handling, logging, auditing, and restartability; manage SSIS event handlers.
- Use SSIS configurations/parameters and environment-based deployments (SSIS Catalog/SSISDB).
- Optimise package performance (buffer tuning, parallelism, indexes, set-based SQL, minimal logging where appropriate).
- Manage deployments across environments; follow change/release processes and maintain version control.
- Produce and maintain documentation (package design, runbooks, operational procedures).
- Ensure security and compliance (least privilege, credential management, sensitive parameter handling).
What we're looking for
- Strong hands‑on SSIS development experience (typically 5+ years).
- Advanced T‑SQL (stored procedures, set‑based transformations, performance tuning).
- Experience with SSISDB deployment model, environments, parameters, and logging.
- Solid understanding of ETL concepts, data quality controls, and reconciliation.
- Experience with SQL Server (indexes, partitions, query plans, SSMS).
- Familiarity with SDLC practices: Git/TFS/Azure DevOps, code reviews, and release management.
Desirable skills
- SSRS/Power BI integration awareness; basic data modelling for reporting.
- Experience with data warehouse patterns (star schema, SCD).
- Scripting (PowerShell) for automation; CI/CD for SSIS (Azure DevOps pipelines).
- Working knowledge of Azure data services (ADF, Synapse) for hybrid migration contexts.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric is desirable.
This is an excellent prospect to join a high-performing team delivering meaningful enterprise outcomes within a complex and modern technical environment.
We value diverse experiences and perspectives, creating an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing workplace.
NRI Australia & New Zealand is committed to building a culturally diverse and inclusive workplace and strongly encourages applications regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability.
