Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of major industrial projects, we are seeking experienced Electrical Automation Specialists / Commissioning Technicians to join our growing team in a full-time capacity.
Based primarily on a major project in Melbourne's Western Suburbs, this role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale industrial automation systems, with ongoing work across future projects as Jarlam Electrics continues to expand.
This opportunity is ideal for experienced automation technicians, commissioning specialists, industrial electricians and controls technicians who enjoy working with cutting-edge automation systems and solving technical challenges in fast-paced industrial environments.
About the Role
Working alongside our Controls and Project teams, you will be responsible for the commissioning, testing and validation of industrial automation systems and associated electrical infrastructure.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Downloading PLC and field device software required for hardware commissioning.
- Commissioning 24V control systems and field devices.
- Hardware device assignment and configuration.
- Profinet network configuration and commissioning.
- Sensor, scanner and reflector alignment.
- Executing I/O testing, including integration with third-party equipment.
- Commissioning and validating Siemens Safety PLC and Safety I/O systems.
- Downloading and verifying field device parameters.
- Assisting with mechanical commissioning activities.
- Completing commissioning documentation and checklists.
- Reporting commissioning progress and escalating technical issues or bottlenecks.
- Collaborating with mechanical, electrical and controls teams to resolve cross-disciplinary issues.
- Diagnosing and resolving hardware faults during commissioning.
- Performing motor rotation (bump) testing.
- Completing red-line updates to as-built drawings for handover to the Controls Team.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in industrial automation, controls or electrical commissioning.
- Experience with Siemens PLCs, particularly TIA Portal (Version 21 experience highly regarded).
- Experience commissioning 24V control systems and field devices.
- Knowledge of Profinet network setup and commissioning.
- Experience with 24V I/O hardware.
- Experience commissioning Siemens Safety PLCs and Safety I/O.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience working in industrial construction or major project environments.
- Current White Card.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary commissioning team.
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
Highly Regarded
- Current A Grade Electrical License.
- Experience with automated conveyor systems or warehouse automation.
- Experience with industrial networking technologies.
- VSD and HMI commissioning experience.
- Exposure to robotics and functional safety systems.
