About the Role
SNS Migration & Education Services is seeking a motivated, reliable and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our team at our Sydney CBD office.
This is a full-time, onsite position offering hands-on exposure across bookkeeping, accounts receivable and payable, invoicing, bank reconciliations, debtor management, payment follow-ups and general financial administration.
You will also work closely with students, clients, colleges, universities, education providers and our internal migration and education teams.
This position would suit someone looking to build their accounting career in a professional and fast-paced migration and international education services environment.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping & Accounts
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using Xero.
- Record daily financial transactions, including receipts, payments and journal entries.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards and supplier accounts.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure transactions are accurately recorded.
- Assist with monthly financial reports and reconciliations.
Invoicing & Accounts Receivable
- Prepare, verify and issue invoices for migration, education and consultancy services.
- Monitor accounts receivable and maintain an accurate debtor register.
- Record incoming payments and correctly allocate receipts.
- Prepare debtor reports and provide regular updates to management.
- Identify and follow up overdue accounts.
Payment Follow-up & Debt Collection
- Professionally follow up students, clients, sponsors and other payers regarding outstanding tuition and service fees.
- Conduct payment follow-up calls and send professional reminder emails.
- Maintain accurate records of payment arrangements and collection activities.
- Resolve invoice discrepancies and communicate with clients regarding outstanding balances.
- Escalate long-overdue accounts to management where required.
Education Provider & Supplier Accounts
- Communicate with colleges, universities and education providers regarding student fee payments, commission receivables and account reconciliations.
- Follow up outstanding commission payments and invoices owed to the company.
- Review payments received from students and clients before preparing payments to education providers where applicable.
- Prepare payment schedules for education providers, suppliers and service providers.
- Ensure payments are supported by appropriate documentation and management approval.
Financial Administration & Compliance
- Maintain organised financial documents and supporting records.
- Assist with preparing BAS documentation and other financial reports for the Accountant.
- Support external accountants during month-end, year-end reporting and audits.
- Respond professionally to enquiries regarding invoices, payments and account balances.
- Coordinate with migration agents, education consultants, management and finance staff.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial and client information.
- Perform other bookkeeping, accounting and administrative duties as required.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Diploma, Bachelor's degree or other relevant qualification in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance or a related discipline.
- Previous experience in bookkeeping,
accounts administration or an Assistant Accountant role.
- Experience with Xero or similar accounting software.
- Good understanding of accounts receivable, accounts payable and bookkeeping principles.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Outlook.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence communicating with clients and professionally following up outstanding payments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Previous experience in a migration agency, education consultancy, international education provider or qualified services environment will be highly regarded.
