HyeCare is the personalised Support at Home service delivered within the premium Hyegrove retirement community.
Our focus is to help older people remain independent, connected and living well through meaningful support, engagement and personalised care.
We are seeking an experienced and qualified Diversional Therapist who can confidently step into the role and make an immediate impact.
This is not an entry-level position.
You will bring demonstrated experience in planning and delivering individual and group lifestyle programs, with a strong understanding of dementia care and person-centred practice.
While the primary focus of this role is supporting HyeCare clients, you will also work collaboratively with the Hyegrove Events & Wellness team to assist in delivering community events and lifestyle initiatives across the retirement village.
About the Role
As our Diversional Therapist, you will develop and deliver engaging therapeutic lifestyle programs that promote independence, wellbeing, cognitive stimulation and social connection for HyeCare clients.
You will assess individual interests and abilities, tailor activities to meet residents' needs, and contribute to creating a vibrant and supportive community.
Key Responsibilities
HyeCare Lifestyle & Therapeutic Programs
Assess clients' physical, cognitive, emotional and social needs to develop meaningful lifestyle programs.
Plan and deliver individual and group therapeutic activities that enhance wellbeing and quality of life.
Develop programs that support cognitive stimulation, social engagement, physical activity and emotional wellbeing.
Monitor participation, evaluate outcomes and modify programs to meet changing needs.
Maintain accurate documentation, assessments and progress notes.
Dementia Care
Deliver evidence‐based, person-centred activities for clients living with dementia.
Adapt programs to suit varying stages of cognitive impairment.
Apply best‐practice dementia care principles to maximise engagement and reduce distress.
Support families and staff with strategies that promote meaningful engagement.
Resident Engagement
Build genuine relationships with residents and their families.
Encourage participation while respecting individual preferences, abilities and cultural backgrounds.
Identify opportunities to improve resident wellbeing through meaningful occupation and social connection.
Work closely with the HyeCare team to coordinate services for clients.
Support the Hyegrove Events & Wellness Coordinator with larger community events, celebrations and special activities.
Liaise with allied health professionals, volunteers and external providers where required.
Compliance & Quality
Maintain compliance with the Aged Care Quality Standards,
organisational policies and WHS requirements.
Ensure all programs are delivered safely and professionally.
Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.
About You
Qualification in Diversional Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Leisure & Health or equivalent recognised qualification.
Demonstrated experience as a Diversional Therapist within aged care, community care or retirement living.
Proven experience working with people living with dementia, including developing and delivering dementia‐specific programs.
Strong knowledge of person‐centred care principles.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
Current National Police Check.
Current Australian Driver Licence.
Full Australian working rights.
Highly Desirable
Experience within Support at Home or Home Care services.
Knowledge of the Aged Care Quality Standards and Support at Home Program.
Experience working in premium retirement living environments.
Qualifications or additional training in dementia care, Montessori for Dementia, validation therapy or similar approaches.
