Role DescriptionHelp build a different kind of genetic laboratoryPreciselee is a specialist medical laboratory providing clinical genetic testing services, with a particular focus on helping people identify actionable genetic risks earlier.We are seeking a Laboratory Scientist to join our small team on a full-time or part-time, 12-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension subject to business requirements and performance.This is a broad, hands-on generalist role for someone who wants exposure to the complete genetic testing pathway rather than working within one narrow section of a large laboratory.Working closely with our Genetic Pathologist, you will contribute across customer support, sample processing, laboratory testing, genomic data analysis, variant classification, clinical report preparation, and laboratory quality activities.RemunerationThe salary range is $85,000-$95,000 plus superannuation (FTE), pro rata for part-time employment, depending on qualifications and relevant experience.Your responsibilities will include:Responding to routine enquiries from patients, clinicians and referring practicesCoordinating test requests, sample collection kits, specimens and associated documentationReceiving, accessioning and assessing clinical specimensIdentifying specimen or request-form issues and coordinating their resolutionPerforming DNA extraction, quantification and quality assessmentPerforming molecular laboratory procedures using established methodsReviewing laboratory quality-control and sequencing quality metricsAnalysing genomic data using validated pipelines and softwareAnnotating and evaluating genetic variants using established proceduresReviewing scientific literature,



population databases, clinical databases and other relevant evidencePreparing evidence summaries and preliminary variant classificationsDrafting and preparing clinical laboratory reports for review and authorisation by a Genetic PathologistMaintaining laboratory equipment, reagents, consumables and inventoryCompleting equipment, maintenance, quality-control and temperature recordsAssisting with assay validation and verification activitiesParticipating in quality-improvement activities and investigations of non-conformancesContributing to the review and improvement of standard operating procedures, forms and laboratory workflowsSupporting the general operation and maintenance of the laboratoryQualifications, Skills, and ExperienceYou will have:A bachelor's degree or higher in medical science, laboratory medicine, molecular biology, genetics, genomics or a related disciplineRelevant experience in a diagnostic, clinical,



molecular or genomic laboratoryAn understanding of molecular genetics and human genetic variationClear written and verbal communication skillsStrong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate and timely workThe ability to prioritise competing demands and reliably follow tasks through to completionThe ability to independently manage routine work within established proceduresA willingness to contribute across different areas of a small laboratoryThe judgment to recognise and recognise and unusual or complex mattersExperience in any of the following would be highly regarded:DNA extraction from saliva, blood, and other clinical specimensHuman molecular genetics or genomic testing, including carrier screening and inherited disease testingAnalysis of massively parallel sequencing and Sanger sequencing dataVariant interpretation using ACMG/AMP classification frameworksISO *****, NATA accreditation, and laboratory quality-management systemsLaboratory validation, verification, and quality-improvement activitiesScientific writing, literature review, and critical evaluation of scientific evidenceWhy join Preciselee?
