The Role
Are you a strategic logistics professional looking to contribute to complex Defence capability projects?
The Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Air Branch is seeking three APS6 Logistics Officers to support the acquisition of advanced weapons systems.
These roles are focused on logistics planning, governance and integration within major acquisition and sustainment programs, not day to day warehousing or physical supply operations.
As an APS 6 Logistics Officer, you will work within multidisciplinary project teams to design, develop and implement logistics support concepts that enable new weapons capabilities to be introduced into service.
You will provide advice on logistics policy, systems and life cycle considerations, ensuring solutions are fit for purpose, compliant and aligned with Defence requirements.
Working under broad direction, you will exercise initiative and judgement to interpret policy, manage complex logistics considerations and contribute to strategic planning and project delivery.
In this role, you will:
Develop and implement logistics support strategies and plans for new capability acquisition.
Review logistics support frameworks, including inventory, sustainment and support system requirements.
Prepare high quality briefs, reports and documentation to support decision making.
Engage with internal and external stakeholders to integrate logistics considerations into capability projects.
Identify logistics risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Ensure compliance with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
Contribute to broader project planning, capability development and continuous improvement activities.

This role has been identified as requiring access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)



controlled technologies.
The ITAR is United States (US) law that controls the manufacture, sale, use and access of defence and military end-use articles on the United States Munitions List.
It is the policy of the US to deny exports of ITAR controlled technologies to proscribed countries.
This may also apply to access by persons who hold or have held a citizenship, or current permanent residency, of said countries.
Defence utilises workforce mechanisms to mitigate these restrictions, which will require applicants provide details of all current citizenships and permanent residencies, as well as previously held citizenships.
Defence collects citizenship details to confirm an applicant's eligibility for the role and to maintain compliance with international obligations.

The Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Systems Division plays a key role in delivering critical capability for Defence.
The Division works to ensure that Australia has access to modern, reliable, and effective guided weapons and explosive ordnance, while strengthening sovereign capability and supporting national security objectives.
This is achieved through close collaboration with industry, international partners, and stakeholders across Defence, helping to support the full lifecycle of capability, from initial concept through to delivery and sustainment.
Within this, GWEO Air Branch focuses on supporting Air Force capability, working as part of an integrated team to deliver outcomes that enable Defence operations.
The Branch works closely with stakeholders to manage complex challenges, support decision making,



and ensure capability remains effective, safe, and fit for purpose.
Together, GWEO Systems Division and GWEO Air Branch contribute to a coordinated, forward looking approach that strengthens Defence capability, supports operational readiness, and helps ensure Australia is well positioned to respond to future challenges.
Our Ideal Candidate
To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:
Experience in logistics planning, capability development, or supply chain strategy (rather than operational warehousing or distribution roles).
Solid understanding of governance, policy, and lifecycle logistics concepts.
Ability to think strategically and apply logistics principles to complex projects.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in preparing briefs and engaging stakeholders.
Proven ability to work in a project or program environment.
Sound judgement, initiative, and problem solving capability.
Eligibility
Security Clearance:
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at "Negative Vetting Level 1".
