About the role
We are seeking a
Senior Accountant
to join our team in Yarrawonga, NT on a full-time basis.
This is a strategic position within our finance function, where you will play a crucial role in managing our financial operations, budgeting, and management accounting activities.
You will provide financial leadership and expertise that directly supports the organisation's mission to deliver effective housing services to our community.
This role is integral to ensuring financial sustainability and compliance across all our operations.
Key responsibilities
Prepare and manage organisational budgets, forecasts and financial projections to support strategic planning and decision-making
Monitor expenditure and variances against budgets, investigating discrepancies and providing recommendations for corrective action
Prepare detailed financial reports and analysis for management, board members and funding bodies
Oversee the general ledger, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, funding agreements, government regulations and internal policies
Support the Chief Financial Officer in financial planning and strategic initiatives
Provide guidance and mentoring to junior accounting staff and assist with their professional development
Conduct financial audits and reconciliations to maintain the integrity of financial records
Liaise with external auditors and funding bodies to ensure all financial reporting requirements are met




What we're looking for
A recognised accounting qualification
Minimum 5 years' experience in management accounting, budgeting and financial analysis roles
Demonstrated expertise in financial reporting, budget preparation and variance analysis
Strong proficiency with accounting software and financial management systems, including spreadsheet applications
Experience with not-for-profit or community sector accounting is highly desirable
Knowledge of government funding compliance requirements and acquittal processes
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff members
A commitment to working with Aboriginal communities and understanding of cultural sensitivity
