The Conservation Council of South Australia Inc (Conservation SA) is the Peak Body for conservation, representing 40+ of the State's environment, conservation and heritage organisations in South Australia.
We are an independent non-profit, non-party-political and community-based organisation providing resources, advice and representation for the SA environment movement.
We also lead and/or support many of the key conservation campaigns in South Australia.

THE ROLE
The Senior Campaigner is responsible for providing coordination and implementation of Conservation SA's campaign portfolio across climate, biodiversity and water priorities.
The role ensures campaign planning, prioritisation, funding alignment and delivery are consistent with Conservation SA's Strategic Plan ********* and contribute to achieving meaningful environmental and social change outcomes.
Working closely with the CEO, staff, member organisations, supporters and key stakeholders, the Senior Campaigner develops and implements innovative, evidence-based campaigns that build public support, influence decision-makers, strengthen the environmental movement and secure positive outcomes for nature and climate in South Australia.
The role provides leadership and mentoring to campaign staff, supports organisational alignment across programs, and ensures campaigns are strategically integrated with communications, movement-building and fundraising activities.
At its core the Senior Campaigner leverages Conservation SA's influence, networks and community power to inspire action, shape public debate and influence decision-makers, ensuring South Australia responds to climate and environmental challenges with the urgency, ambition and leadership required to create lasting change.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.



Campaign Strategy Portfolio Leadership
Maintain a strategic campaign portfolio aligned with Conservation SA's organisational priorities.
Ensure all campaigns are supported by a clear theory of change and measurable objectives.
Assist in the development of funding proposals to support campaign delivery and growth.
Provide advice to the CEO and Board on emerging campaign opportunities and risks.
2. Campaign Development and Delivery
Lead the design, planning and implementation of high-impact advocacy and community campaigns.
Provide direct campaign leadership where required across climate, biodiversity and water initiatives.
Develop campaign strategies, tactics, timelines and evaluation frameworks.
Monitor campaign effectiveness and adapt strategies to maximise impact.
Prioritise campaigns that contribute to policy change, public engagement and environmental outcomes.
3. Movement Building and Community Engagement
Strengthen connections between campaigns, supporters, volunteers and member organisations.
Build collaborative relationships with community groups, Traditional Owners, stakeholders and partner organisations.
Support the development of broad-based coalitions to advance campaign objectives.
4. Communications and Narrative Development
Work closely with communications staff to ensure consistent messaging across campaigns.
Contribute to the development of compelling campaign narratives and public-facing content.
Support media engagement, digital campaigning and public advocacy activities.
Coordinate campaign content planning to maximise audience engagement and impact.
5. Funding and Resource Management
Contribute to fundraising strategies and grant applications to secure campaign funding.
Oversee campaign budgets and ensure expenditure aligns with approved funding and organisational priorities.
Monitor campaign resources and identify opportunities for investment and growth.
Support reporting requirements for funders and stakeholders.
6. Leadership and Organisational Alignment
Provide supervision, coaching and strategic support to campaign staff.
Promote effective collaboration across teams to minimise duplication and improve organisational impact.
Ensure campaign activities align with organisational objectives and operational plans.
Prepare regular reports for the CEO and Board on campaign progress, outcomes and risks.




Support the integration of The ExChange and organisational partnerships into campaign activities where appropriate.
Conditions of appointment
Employment conditions are governed by the Conservation SA Enterprise Agreement ****, the SCHADS award, national guidelines and the organisation's policies.

Knowledge, experience and capabilities
Significant experience leading advocacy, public affairs, community organising or social change campaigns.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement campaign strategies that achieve measurable outcomes.
Strong stakeholder engagement and coalition-building skills.
Experience managing budgets, projects and funding opportunities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to analyse political, social and environmental contexts and identify strategic opportunities.

qualifications
relevant four-year degree with one year's relevant experience.
three-year degree with two years of relevant experience.
associate diploma with relevant experience.
lesser formal qualifications with substantial years of relevant experience; or
attained through previous appointments, service and/or study, an equivalent level of expertise and experience to undertake a range of activities.
Esseential requirements
Current South Australian Driver's License
Willingness to travel within and beyond South Australia, and out of hours work
Desirable requirements
Experience working within the environmental, conservation, community or not-for-profit sectors.
Knowledge of South Australian environmental policy and advocacy landscapes.
Experience in fundraising, grants and philanthropic engagement.
