Department for Education, Children and Young People TAS – Deloraine TASThis is more than a job — it's a chance to positively influence young lives.As a Youth Worker – Custodial Justice, you'll support young people in a structured, secure environment, helping them develop life skills, make better choices, and prepare for life beyond custody.
You'll work as part of a multidisciplinary team using trauma-informed and restorative approaches to build trust and promote change.
We have multiple positions available based at Ashley Youth Detention Centre (AYDC).
Key responsibilities include:Providing consistent care, supervision and supportBuilding respectful, professional relationships with young peopleResponding to challenging behaviour using approved de-escalation techniquesSupporting case plans and rehabilitation programsBeing a positive role model and mentorWho we're looking forWe're looking for people with the right mindset, not just qualifications.
You might have a Certificate IV in Youth or Community Services — but what matters most is your ability to connect, stay calm under pressure, and support young people through tough moments.You'll bringA genuine drive to help young people build better futuresStrong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skillsThe ability to provide structure, care and supervisionConfidence in managing challenging behaviour using therapeutic approachesLife experience, resilience and emotional intelligenceA current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Employment/Volunteer Status, or the ability to obtainFor more information about the role and the essential requirements, please refer to the Statement Of Duties (PDF).
What we are offeringSalary range: $85,196 – $97,915 per annum + 6.5% Corrections Allowance + SuperannuationPermanent full-time role with 6.5% corrections allowance on the top of your base salary7 Weeks of full-time,
