EXPRESSION OF INTEREST: Forward Deployed Engineer
Build the Digital Tools Behind Better Care and Connected Communities
Perth, WA (Hybrid) | $150,000–$200,000
Aged Care | Disability | Mental Health — Not-for-profit, community-owned
Chorus is a WA not-for-profit delivering aged care, disability and mental health services across Perth and regional WA, built on local ownership.
We're in the middle of a genuine digital transformation, and we're looking for someone to help shape it from the ground up, rather than join something already built.
What We're Building
Behind every great community service is technology that makes it easier for people to connect, access support and live well.
Chorus has committed to a multi-year technology strategy that's AI-native, automation-first and built on Microsoft Azure and Power Platform.
At its centre is the My Chorus Local Portal, a digital workspace giving local team leaders one place to see and act on their week, replacing scattered spreadsheets and email.
Alongside it, we're building Choree, an AI-native assistant that lets our people ask questions in plain language and get real answers — first from our knowledge base, and eventually from a governed data platform.
Underpinning it all is a broader modernisation programme — a new data platform, core system replacements, an API layer, uplifted identity and security, and a growing internal digital team taking on work once outsourced.
This is a genuine rebuild of how a mid-sized human services organisation runs, and much of it is still being designed, not just delivered.
That's where you come in.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer — a hands-on, business-facing role built around Microsoft's Power Platform and Azure.
You'll work directly with frontline teams and local leaders to understand real problems, then design and build the solutions that solve them, rather than build to someone else's spec.
The tools are Microsoft's; the job is creating, not just configuring.
Rather than lock in a rigid job description, we're running this as an Expression of Interest.
In practice, that means:We know the broad shape of what we need, but not the exact scope or seniority — we'll shape that together with the right person. You'll have real input into how the role is scoped, based on your strengths and what excites you.You don't need every skill listed below — we're looking for someone to build this with, not someone who arrives complete. The role can flex around your strengths, and may change shape as the wider team grows around you. You'll get a genuine say in this through the process below.
We've deliberately avoided a long list of required technologies.
We care more about how you think, work with people and build, than which tools you've used before.
What You'll Focus On
Core: Building on Power Platform
At the core of this role is hands-on product engineering across Power Platform and Azure — turning real business problems into working solutions.
Day to day, this could involve:Designing and building apps, automations, agents and data solutions (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio, Dataverse) that solve genuine problems for local teams.Turning fuzzy business needs into clear technical designs — architecture, data models,

integrations — that you and others can build from.Setting up the governance and engineering practices that let this grow safely — environments, ALM, security roles, data standards.Reaching into the wider Azure ecosystem (Logic Apps, Functions, Entra ID, API Management) where a problem calls for it.
We're after someone who can create and problem-solve, not just execute a spec — the mix above can flex around your strengths.
Nice to Have: Broader Exposure
Because we're building a capability and a team over time, we're also interested in candidates with some experience in the areas below, or who are keen to learn them.
None are required — they're places this role could grow into, alongside colleagues and partners who specialise in them:Data & AI — Data pipelines, governance, Power BI, or Azure AI services (Azure OpenAI, AI Search, Bot Service).
Identity & Security — Microsoft Entra ID, access management, DLP policy, or cyber security uplift work.ITSM — Service management, ITSM/service desk platforms, SLAs, knowledge bases, asset management and procurement.Information Architecture — Structuring and governing information across Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Teams) so people can find what they need.Product Engineering — Full-stack build skills beyond Power Platform (React, Node.js, Azure Functions), or integrating LLM capability into custom apps.Technical Business Analysis — Stakeholder discovery, requirements gathering, and translating them into specs a team can build from.Digital Implementation — SaaS platform rollouts, vendor management, and the change work that makes a rollout actually stick. This role is designed to grow.
As the strategy matures and the team grows, so will the shape of what you do — recent tools, new problems, more scope, more say.
We're not filling a fixed job description for the next three years; we're hiring someone to help define what this capability becomes.
Why Chorus?
Purposeful work — Everything we build supports people accessing aged care, disability or mental health services, and the teams who support them.A meaningful impact — You'll see the effect of what you build — a good app here means a support worker gets an hour back with a client, not a spreadsheet.Freedom to experiment — We're still working out our approach, so there's real room to try things and shape how we build, not just what.Broad technology exposure — This role sits across Power Platform, Azure, data and AI — you won't be boxed into a single platform.Work alongside experienced people — You'll partner closely with experienced technologists and specialist implementation partners, not figure it out alone.Investment in your growth — We're a learning-and-development-focused organisation, committed to helping you expand your skills as the landscape — and your role — evolves.
You Won't Be Doing This Alone
This isn't a 'figure it out solo' role.

You'll work alongside experienced internal technology leaders and specialist delivery partners already engaged on this program, plus an emerging internal digital team — people to think through problems with, sanity-check designs and share the load.
Who Thrives HereYou can translate a messy business problem into a technical solution — and explain the solution back in plain language. You're a strong communicator, just as comfortable with frontline staff and local leaders as you are with other technologists. You're curious and pick up new tools readily — we care more about how fast you learn than what you already know. You're comfortable with ambiguity and want a genuine say in shaping your role and the team around you.You want to build things that matter, for people who need them, rather than another internal tool nobody opens.A pull toward purpose-driven, community-focused organisations is a genuine plus, but not a prerequisite.
What We OfferPerth-based, hybrid working, with real flexibility and autonomy.Competitive salary with not-for-profit salary packaging benefits. The chance to help shape the technology and team early, not just execute someone else's plan.Genuine investment in your learning and development as your role and skills evolve.Work connected to real community impact, alongside a small, collaborative digital team and experienced delivery partners.
Salary
As this role is still being shaped through the Expression of Interest process, the final figure within our $150,000–$200,000 range will depend on the scope, seniority and responsibilities we agree together.
We'll talk openly with you about where it's likely to land as the role takes shape.
How the Expression of Interest Process Works
This process is a genuine two-way conversation — as much a chance for you to get to know Chorus and our strategy as it is for us to get to know you, with real access to our thinking and a say in shaping the outcome.
Step 1 — Submit Your Interest
Send your CV with a short, one-page note covering: which areas above you could contribute to, where you'd like to develop, what about our strategy interests you, and your salary expectations.
We're after a genuine, specific note, not a generic cover letter.
Step 2 — Phone Screening
A short phone conversation with our team to talk through your background and note, and answer any initial questions about the role or Chorus.
Step 3 — Briefing Session and Interview
Shortlisted candidates are invited to a briefing session and interview, including an interactive activity working through a real technical problem with members of our technology team — a chance to see how we think and work, not just hear us describe it.
Step 4 — Co-Design Session
The final stage is an informal interview and co-design session, where we finalise the role's scope, focus areas and fit within the team.
Expressions of interest are reviewed on a rolling basis, so we'd encourage you to reach out early.
A Note to Technology Vendors
Chorus already works with a small number of trusted technology and delivery partners on this program.
This Expression of Interest is for a full-time, permanent employee only — not a request for proposals.
Vendor proposals submitted in response to this ad won't be responded to.
