_Ally_group is seeking an experienced Senior Information Lawyer to provide legal advice on matters including privacy, information sharing, and management of freedom of information matters across a high-profile Australian Government Department.
This is a secondment opportunity for an initial 6-month period with the possibility of extension.
The team also provides legal advice on public interest immunity claims, employee entitlements and work health and safety matters, as well as responding to disputes brought by employees and unions before external bodies.
Candidates must be an Australian citizen with a Baseline clearance.
Canberra-based candidates who are available to work on a full-time basis are preferred.
However, remote working arrangements and part-time hours will be considered for the right candidate.
Key responsibilities:
The role involves conducting legal research, providing advice, processing FOI requests (including redacting documents, drafting decisions, and providing advice), participating in client meetings, representing the team with internal stakeholders, and engaging with external applicants when necessary.
Our ideal candidates:
Minimum of three years PAE
Demonstrated experience in processing FOI requests
Previous experience in preparing privacy and information-sharing advice, including on legislative information-sharing provisions is desirable
