Description
Position Summary
As Quality Controller / Roadtester, you are the final checkpoint before any vehicle is returned to a Mercedes-Benz customer — the last set of expert eyes and hands to confirm that every repair has been completed correctly, completely, and to the Mercedes-Benz standard.
Nothing leaves the workshop until you are satisfied it is right.
This role exists because our reputation is built on vehicles that are fixed properly the first time.
Through structured quality control inspections and thorough road testing, you verify that the customer's concern has genuinely been rectified, that all work on the job card has been completed, and that the vehicle presents flawlessly at handover.
Your judgement directly protects our come-back rate, our Quality of Service Work scores, and the trust our customers place in us.

About You
Qualified Automotive Technician with a Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent
Demonstrated experience in a quality control, road testing, final inspection, or senior technician role within a franchised automotive dealership
Mercedes-Benz or equivalent prestige brand experience highly regarded — familiarity with XENTRY/DAS and Mercedes-Benz repair and inspection standards advantageous
Strong diagnostic awareness across mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, with the ability to recognise incomplete or substandard repairs on inspection and road test
A trained ear and feel for noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) concerns and drivability faults, and the discipline to document findings accurately
Meticulous attention to detail and the confidence to hold work back when it does not meet the standard — regardless of time pressure
Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback to technicians and the Workshop Foreman
Sound understanding of WHS/OHS requirements within a workshop environment
Valid driver's licence with a clean driving record — essential, as road testing customer vehicles is a core daily duty
Key Responsibilities
Quality Control Inspections
Conduct structured quality control inspections on all completed vehicles before they are returned to service advisors for handover, verifying every line on the job card has been completed to Mercedes-Benz standards
Identify through road testing with customers any drivability concerns, document findings and work with the technicians to identify and rectify concerns.
Confirm the customer's original concern has been rectified — not just that work has been performed — by reproducing and re-testing the reported fault wherever practical
Inspect completed repairs for workmanship quality, including correct torque and fitment, fluid levels, fastener security, and the absence of leaks, warning lamps, or stored fault codes
Verify all multi-point vehicle inspection (vehicle inspection report) items identified for repair have been actioned or accurately noted for the customer conversation
Ensure service reminders, indicators, and vehicle settings are correctly reset, and that time, radio, seat, and mirror positions are restored where disturbed
Road Testing
Road test vehicles following repair in accordance with Mercedes-Benz road test procedures, using defined test routes appropriate to the repair performed
Road test with customers at drop off to identify and replicate reported drivability concerns.
Assess drivability, braking, steering, transmission behaviour, driver assistance systems, and NVH characteristics, confirming the vehicle performs to Mercedes-Benz standards
Document road test results on the job card accurately and completely, including kilometres travelled, faults observed, and confirmation of rectification — supporting warranty compliance and dispute defensibility
Operate customer vehicles with absolute care and in full compliance with road rules and Autosports Group driving policy at all times, ensuring vehicles are protected (covers, mats) and returned with appropriate fuel and presentation
Conduct pre-repair road tests with technicians where required to confirm and characterise reported faults before diagnosis commences
Return any vehicle that fails quality control or road test to the Workshop Foreman immediately, with a clear written description of the defect — vehicles are never passed to a service advisor with known outstanding issues
Record all quality control failures and rework events, supporting the Workshop Foreman and Service Manager with come-back and re-do analysis and root cause identification
Identify recurring workmanship or process issues and contribute to corrective actions, technician coaching priorities, and process improvements
Flag any additional defects, wear items, or potential service sales opportunities identified during inspection or road test to the relevant service advisor before customer handover
Documentation & Compliance
Ensure job cards, quality control checklists, and road test records are completed accurately and in full on every vehicle, meeting Mercedes-Benz warranty and audit requirements
Support warranty repair documentation accuracy by confirming claimed work has been performed and is evidenced correctly
Maintain quality control records in the dealership management system and workshop scheduling platform in a timely manner, so vehicle status is always current for the Workshop Controller and service advisors
Presentation & Handover Readiness
Confirm every vehicle is clean, free of grease marks and protective covers, and presented to Mercedes-Benz handover standards before release to the service advisor
Coordinate with the wash bay / valet team to ensure vehicle presentation does not delay customer promise times, escalating at-risk vehicles to the Workshop Controller early
Standards & Compliance
Ensure all inspection and road test activity is conducted in full compliance with Mercedes-Benz technical standards, warranty requirements, and Autosports Group policy
Adhere to all WHS/OHS requirements within the workshop environment and on public roads, reporting hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly
Report any vehicle damage, however minor, immediately and honestly in accordance with Autosports Group policy
Comply with all Autosports Group Company Policies and the Employment Handbook
