Flight Training Adelaide Queensland (FTAQ) is one of the leading aviation training organisations in the southern hemisphere.
We deliver ab-initio pilot training for the airline industry, training students from Australia and around the world, and hold a long term contract to deliver training for the Qantas Group Pilot Academy.Our modern, well-equipped campus is at Wellcamp Airport, a short drive from Toowoomba, with a current flying fleet of Diamond DA40 and DA42 aircraft.About the roleReporting to the Chief Finance Officer, the Financial Controller runs the finance and accounting function for FTA Queensland.
You will lead and mentor the finance team, own the monthly reporting cycle, and partner with the CFO on budgets, forecasts and year end.The role has genuine breadth.
Alongside core financial control, you will oversee payroll, manage VET Student Loan compliance, and prepare the quarterly KPI reporting and business plan updates that go to Qantas.
You will work closely with managers across the campus and with your Financial Controller counterpart at our Parafield site in Adelaide.What you will be doingPrepare monthly management accounts, with detailed analysis of results for presentation at the monthly management reviewPrepare revenue, cost base and cash flow budgets and forecasts in conjunction with the CFOOversee the fortnightly payroll process end to end, from onboarding through to payment and reportingComplete payroll tax and Workcover returns, and maintain compliance with the VET Student Loans RulesReconcile and review customer advance payments and VET Student Loan payments,



and issue student closeout calculationsPrepare and review quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, and oversee bank reconciliationManage capital expenditure reporting for monthly issue to managersPrepare the quarterly Qantas KPI report and update the business plan for review by the COOPrepare financial year end annual and statutory accounts, and manage EOFY audit preparation with external auditorsAdvise departmental managers on cost management and budgetsLead, mentor and develop the finance teamInvestigate and implement improvements to finance systems and proceduresWhat we are looking forAt least five years' experience in a similar roleBachelor of Commerce with a major in Accounting, or equivalent (desirable)Experience with an ERP system (desirable) and strong skills across the Microsoft suiteExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work under pressure and manage competing deadlinesWhat we offerA supportive culture with a strong commitment to safety and team developmentDiscounted chef prepared meals at the campus dining hallFree in office parkingSalary packaging for superannuation and novated leasesLocationOur campus is at Wellcamp Airport, a short drive from Toowoomba.
