Please note this opportunity is an option after the Graduate Programme unless you have a civils background.The roleFerrovial Construction is seeking a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to join the HS2 Track infrastructure project during its initial design phase, which will run alongside the completion of main works contracts currently at their peak.This role sits within our design delivery team and focuses on the performance of earthworks and foundations delivered by the main works contractors.
As a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer, you will help assess ground-track interaction and support the coordination of geotechnical factors that influence railway track performance.The Ferrovial 2-year graduate development programme is designed to develop personal, professional and technical skills through a blended approach.
You will work under the supervision of our Design Integration Lead and in collaboration with the site team.Location: Euston, LondonFlexibility to travel to Birmingham when required.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist in the assessment of earthworks performance, including settlement, consolidation, and seasonal heave.Review geotechnical reports, ground investigation data, and design outputs.Contribute to the development of track–ground interaction models and technical studies.Support interpretation of instrumentation and monitoring data (settlement markers, inclinometers, etc.).
Work with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geotechnical considerations into track and civil designs.Identify and assess risks associated with differential settlement at transitions (e.g. embankment–structure interfaces).
Support development of mitigation measures (e.g. ground improvement, transition solutions).
Review drawings, specifications, and design deliverables for geotechnical inputs.Liaise with construction teams to ensure geotechnical risks are understood and managed during delivery.Attend site and design coordination meetings in London and/or Birmingham.Support the resolution of geotechnical issues during construction.Assist in reviewing and validating monitoring reports and construction records.Support identification of geotechnical risks, opportunities, and change events.Contribute to technical inputs for processes such as NCRs, change events, and departures.Assist with technical assurance during design, construction,



and handover.Promote efficient and buildable solutions through value engineering.Promote safe-by-design principles and geotechnical risk management.Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.Skills and CompetenceWe are looking for graduates with:Excellent communication skills and ability to interact at a variety of levelsDegree or master's in engineering or related discipline (for example Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering)Motivated to learn and add value to the team, the role and the Graduate programmeAnalytical thinker who enjoys problem solvingA proven team player who can effectively work with othersProactive approach to working and learningCommercial awareness and an understanding of the industryFamiliar with all Microsoft packagesInterpersonal SkillsHighly motivatedLogical thinker with a willingness to learnResilient and a flexible approach to workingResults driven with strong communication skillsWork independently with minimal supervisionDesirableKnowledge of Health and Safety LegislationExperience in geotechnical engineeringUnderstanding of earthworks behaviour (settlement, consolidation, shrink–swell/heave).
