10d ago , from Illawarra Mercury Job BoardNetStrategy works exclusively in K–12 education.
We have supported over 400 schools across Australia for more than 40 years.
ICT is not a sideline for us — it is the business.
The people we hire are responsible for the technology that keeps schools running. This role is built for someone who wants more than a standard helpdesk position — and is ready to prove it.This is a hybrid role in the truest sense.
Day to day, you will be delivering ICT support across a portfolio of school clients — troubleshooting, supporting infrastructure, and working within a structured service delivery team.
At the same time, you will be applying and developing real DevOps capability: automation, pipelines, and cloud infrastructure work that sits alongside the support function rather than replacing it.The balance will shift over time.
The role starts support-heavy and grows toward DevOps as your confidence and capability build.
What you bring on day one is a solid technical foundation and the curiosity to go further.
What you build from there is up to youWhat you'll be doingThe role has two connected parts:ICT support and infrastructureProviding day-to-day ICT support across end-user computing, connectivity, and core infrastructure for school clientsTroubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues — working through problems methodically and escalating when neededSupporting server environments, identity management, and cloud-based infrastructureContributing to infrastructure projects alongside senior engineersMaintaining transparent, timely communication with clients and internal stakeholders when issues ariseKeeping technical documentation accurate and up to dateDevOps and automationBuilding and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and GitHub ActionsProvisioning and configuring cloud infrastructure across Azure environments using Infrastructure as CodeApplying configuration management practices to keep environments consistent and reduce driftContributing to monitoring, alerting,
and observability solutions for client infrastructureWriting scripts to automate routine provisioning, system updates, and repetitive operational tasksUsing workflow automation tools such as Microsoft Power Automate, Rewst, n8n, and Node-RED to turn manual processes into automated onesUsing AI coding tools such as Claude Code and ChatGPT Codex to build rapid proof-of-concepts and prototypes that can be matured into production-grade internal and client-facing toolsWorking with container technologies such as Docker, building, modifying, and troubleshooting containerised workloadsSupporting security best practices across pipeline and infrastructure designProducing clear technical documentation and runbooks for handover and ongoing supportWho we're looking forYou are likely finishing or have recently completed a degree or certification in IT, computer science, or software engineering — or you have built equivalent practical experience through hands-on work and self-directed learning.
You do not need commercial experience in both disciplines on day one.
What matters is that you have a genuine technical foundation, an interest in automation and infrastructure, and the discipline to learn in a structured, client-facing environment. What we're looking for:You work through problems logically and know when to ask for helpYou communicate clearly with people who are not technical — and you do not make them feel like they should beYou follow through.
If you say you will do something, you do itYou are curious about automation and infrastructure and take it on yourself to stay currentYou have some exposure to DevOps tooling — whether through coursework, labs,
or personal projects — and you want to develop it in a commercial environmentYou take the work seriously but do not need to be chased to do it wellSkills and ExperienceRelevant tertiary qualification in computer science, information technology, or software engineering — or equivalent practical experienceFoundational knowledge of networking, server environments, and end-user computingFamiliarity with Microsoft 365 and cloud-based infrastructure, particularly AzureExposure to CI/CD tooling or Infrastructure as Code — through study, labs, or personal projectsScripting ability in at least one language (PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar)Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues methodicallyClear written and verbal communicationFull Australian work rightsAdvantageous:Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) or equivalent cloud certificationExposure to GitHub or similar version control toolsExperience with VMware, Hyper‐V, or Azure virtualisation environmentsFamiliarity with ITSM tools or ticketing systems (ConnectWise is a plus)SNMP configuration and network monitoring platforms such as ZabbixWorking with APIs, and an awareness of emerging tooling such as Model Context Protocol (MCP)Experience in a managed services or multi-client environment (including internships or placements)ITIL Foundation — useful context for how technology services are managed and deliveredAny prior experience in or with a school environmentWhy NetStrategy?
We work in one sector.
That means the context you build here is deep rather than scattered.
You will understand schools — their operations, their rhythms, and their risk profile — in a way that generalist IT providers never do.Across our school client base you will encounter different infrastructure configurations, different support challenges, and different automation problems — the kind of variety that accelerates a technical career faster than a single-site role ever could. This role has a clear path forward for the right person.
The support foundation builds the practical instincts.
The DevOps layer builds the capability that takes you further. Our ValuesOwn ItGo FurtherLift OthersStay Grounded
