Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo) – Sydney NSWKey duties include:To contribute to the total health care needs and expectations of clients, clinicians, staff, and the community by providing and maintaining a high level of standard in the Surgical Department.Punctual daily ward rounds of inpatients and consults with consultant or as Team Leader.Maintenance of adequate hospital clinical records, including documentation of ward rounds and relevant changes in patient condition.Communication with consultants on a daily basis and with changes in patient condition.Receive and manage consultations from Emergency and other specialties in a timely manner.Examine all new admissions.Assess and initiate management of the acutely unwell patient.Ensure ongoing support and information to the patient and family where appropriate.Appropriate hand-over of patients to ensure continuity of care.Facilitate appropriate and timely discharge of patients with appropriate follow-up.Chase results of all relevant investigations.Participation in an on-call and relief Trainee roster including weekends, evenings and nights.Ensure effective communication between specialty teams, allied health, nursing staff and patients and their families.Attendance at all operating and endoscopy lists attached to the relevant team.Develop surgical skills whilst knowing and working within limitations.Develop independent operating skills appropriate to level of experience.Operation report documentation.Ensure that all arrangements for autopsy, death and cremation certificates are made expeditiously and appropriate support to other staff and family is given.Provide teaching, support and assistance to junior medical staff and medical students.Involvement in regular teaching, Grand Rounds and Morbidity and Mortality meetings.Ensure that all services provided to patients are consistent with instructions issued by your supervisor or Department Director or any conditions imposed by the Medical Board of Australia.Demonstrate courteous and professional behaviour toward patients, their relatives and families at all times.Minimum requirements and conditions:MBBS or equivalent,



currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency.
If the incumbent's registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be supportable by the health agency for this role.Valid Working with Children Check.Cleared National Police Check.Compliance with NSW Health Policy Directive for occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against specified infectious diseases.Responsibilities under work health and safety (WHS):Supervisor: As a leader you are expected to support the organisation to achieve the aims of the safety management system, establish and maintain a positive health and safety culture in the workplace, and consult with workers and others when making decisions that may impact the health, safety and welfare of those in the workplace.Non-supervisor: Take all reasonable care for yourself and others and comply with any reasonable instruction, policies and procedures relating to work health safety and wellbeing.Clinical responsibilities:Under appropriate supervision, provide day-to-day care to ensure the provision of high-quality clinical services to hospital patients, and manage patients' conditions under your care.Communicate patient-relevant information in a timely and clear manner to patients, their families/carers and all staff involved in the patient's care to facilitate shared decision-making and timely information transfer.Ensure accurate documentation in relation to patient care while maintaining confidentiality and privacy.
This includes treatment plans, correspondence with other treating practitioners, entries into medical records, referrals, discharge summaries, reports, certificates and any other documentation related to patient care and management.Teach junior clinical staff to promote growth and development, including participating in or leading formal education sessions, providing on-the-job learning experiences,



case presentations, feedback, assessments, role modelling and mentoring.Supervise junior clinical staff to enable them to develop competence and knowledge required for responsible practice, promote team building, monitor welfare, and contribute to their career development.
Supervision includes clinical oversight, feedback, guidance and workload management.Contribute to research projects to develop scholarly knowledge that leads to better patient outcomes and to build skills in research methods, ethics, managing conflicts of interest, obtaining informed consent, recruiting and supervising participants, and understanding scientific principles.Participate in the Department's quality assurance activities to maintain standards, identify gaps in safety and quality, and contribute to continual improvement.
This includes audit activities, morbidity and mortality meetings, quality improvement programs, peer review, committee participation, root cause analyses, infection control reporting and complaints investigations.Lead or participate in difficult and critical conversations with patients, families, clients and carers, especially from diverse backgrounds with beliefs and customs that may be contrary to evidence-based medical practice.Create a personal training or development plan, participate in educational experiences, and actively seek feedback to develop skills, knowledge and capability; exercise judgement and know when to seek assistance.Other information:NSW Health workers may be required to use a respirator as part of their appointment.
Where a respirator is required, workers will be instructed in safe use including donning, doffing and fit checking.
Staff may be required to complete fit testing to selected respirators to assess facial fit/seal.
At all times when a respirator is required, the health worker must not have any facial hair present.
Processes are in place to support workers who need to keep facial hair due to religious observance requirements and/or health conditions.Demonstrated commitment to Caring for the Coast vision, goals and strategies, with behaviours aligning to the NSW Health CORE values and the local health district values and behaviours charter.
