Australia for UNHCR and Aotearoa New Zealand for UNHCR are the UN Refugee Agency's national partners in Australia and New Zealand, raising awareness and funds to support UNHCR's global emergency response to humanitarian crises.

At a time when the number of international emergencies continues to rise, Australia for UNHCR plays a critical role in mobilising support and funding to ensure refugees and displaced people receive urgent humanitarian assistance and opportunities to rebuild their lives with dignity.
Impact you will have in this role
Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships, the Philanthropy Manager (Mid-Value) will lead the strategy, growth and management of Australia for UNHCR's mid-value donor portfolio, one of the highest-performing mid-value giving programs in the sector, nurturing supporters who contribute between $1,000 and $10,000 annually.
This role is responsible for developing data-led and relationship-focused engagement strategies that strengthen donor retention, drive acquisition, increase supporter value, and create clear pathways into major giving and Gifts in Wills.
Working collaboratively across Individual Giving, Philanthropy & Partnerships and Fundraising and Business Intelligence, you will deliver personalised donor experiences, lead campaign activity,



identify growth opportunities and contribute to the organisation's long‐term fundraising sustainability.
You will manage one direct report while driving continuous improvement across donor engagement, stewardship and campaign performance.
This is an ambitious, high‐performing program, and we are looking for an innovative fundraiser who is excited by a culture of testing, learning and continuous improvement.
You'll thrive on identifying new opportunities, trialling multi‐channel campaign strategies, and using insights to optimise performance and drive sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement the strategy for the mid‐value donor portfolio, achieving annual income and retention targets.
Manage and grow relationships with mid‐value supporters through personalised cultivation, stewardship and engagement activities.
Champion a culture of testing and learning by designing, trialling and evaluating new acquisition strategies, channels and campaign approaches to maximise performance.
Identify opportunities to upgrade supporters into major giving, Gifts in Wills and other high‐value fundraising programs.
Lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of campaigns and appeals in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
Use donor insights, segmentation, propensity modelling and campaign analysis to inform strategy and improve supporter engagement.
Collaborate with fundraising teams to personalise appeals and communications for mid‐value donors.
Work closely with agency partners and internal stakeholders to develop high‐quality supporter communications and campaign materials.
Monitor campaign performance, manage budgets and provide regular reporting against objectives and revenue targets.
Maintain accurate donor records and relationship activity within the CRM.
Identify opportunities to grow philanthropic income and contribute to the strategic development of the Philanthropy & Partnerships program.
Lead and develop a team member, fostering a collaborative and high‐performing team culture.




Represent Australia for UNHCR at events and maintain a strong understanding of the organisation's global humanitarian work.
Skills and Experience
Demonstrated experience within philanthropy, fundraising or donor development in the not‐for‐profit or NGO sector.
Proven success managing donor portfolios and delivering donor growth, retention and engagement strategies.
Experience managing and analysing donor data and CRM systems.
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple campaigns and priorities simultaneously.
Proven experience developing and delivering successful multi‐channel fundraising acquisition campaigns that drive supporter and income growth.
Demonstrated ability to identify, test and scale new acquisition opportunities, using a data‐led, test‐and‐learn approach.
Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, influence and steward a broad range of stakeholders.
Experience working across direct and digital fundraising campaigns.
Strong analytical capability with experience using data to inform fundraising strategy and decision making.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
A proactive, organised and results‐oriented approach with the ability to work effectively in a fast‐paced workplace.
A collaborative, adaptable, and relationship‐focused working style with a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
