Who We Are Seeking:
We are seeking a qualified Lab Technician (Perfumer's Assistant) to provide specialised laboratory, formulation, and technical support to the perfumer within a fragrance oil development and manufacturing business servicing a diverse B2B customer base.
The role is responsible for accurately compounding fragrance trials and customer samples and maintaining disciplined laboratory systems and raw-material records.
The position plays a critical role in converting the perfumer's creative direction into reproducible, traceable, and production-ready fragrance samples while coordinating priorities and technical information across the perfumer, sales, production, and operations teams.
This is a technically qualified support position rather than an independent perfumer role.
The successful candidate must already possess a sound scientific understanding of chemical composition, concentration calculations, ingredient properties, laboratory safety, and controlled production processes.
Position Purpose:
The Perfumer's Assistant provides practical laboratory and technical support to the Perfumer,



with primary responsibility for the accurate compounding and production of fragrance trials, development samples, and customer samples.
Working from approved formulas and Perfumer instructions, the position weighs, dispenses, blends, labels and prepares fragrance samples using controlled laboratory processes, ensuring each sample is accurate, consistent, traceable, and ready for evaluation or customer submission.

Qualifications:
A completed tertiary qualification in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Materials Science, Biochemistry, or a closely related scientific or engineering discipline is essential.
The qualification must provide an established understanding of chemical composition, solution preparation, concentration and dilution calculations, physical and chemical properties, laboratory methods, hazardous-material handling, and technical data interpretation.
A qualification or formal study specifically related to fragrance, flavours, cosmetics, formulation science, or perfumery is advantageous but not essential.




Candidates are not required to be trained perfumers; however, this role is not intended to provide foundational chemistry or laboratory training.
Experience:
Practical laboratory experience gained through employment, an industrial placement, research, manufacturing, quality control, formulation, or a substantial tertiary laboratory program.
Experience accurately weighing, preparing, mixing, or compounding chemical formulations, solutions, samples, or small production batches is highly desirable.
Experience within fragrance, flavours, cosmetics, personal care, home care, chemical manufacturing, pharmaceutical, food, or FMCG manufacturing is advantageous.
Other:
On-site, laboratory-based role within the Sydney fragrance manufacturing facility; the position is not suitable for remote work.
Ability to work safely around concentrated fragrance materials, solvents, essential oils, and other chemical raw materials while using required PPE and engineering controls.
Ability to perform routine laboratory tasks involving standing, repetitive precision work, handling small containers and glassware, and moving reasonable laboratory or sample quantities.
Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality of fragrance formulas, customer briefs, commercial information, and proprietary processes.
