Deckhands and Fishing Hands - Trap Fishing

Whilst we operate from the Sub-Antarctic to the tropics, we are headquartered in Perth, Western Australia and have been in operation for over 50 years.

Austral have anexciting, yet challenging, chance for Deckhands and Fishing Hands to joinour Northern Finfish Fishery team in Darwin.

As Deckhand/ Fishing Hand, you will be required to:
Comply with Company Drug and Alcohol Testing;
Support the berthing & unberthing of the vessel when in Port;
Handle the vessel ropes and winches whilst undertaking fishing operations;
Assist with baiting and hauling of fish traps;
Sort catch by species;
Process catch and load into the brine tank;
Assist with the unloading of catch when docked;
Perform routine maintenance activities as directed by the Skipper/ Master;




Abide by the instructions of the Skipper/ Master and standard operating procedures of the vessel.

Successful candidates:
Have at least 2 years recent experience trap fishing;
Hold a certificate in vessel Safety Training (ideally, STCW95 and or equivalent) consisting of:
Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR)
Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF)
Security Awareness Training (SAT)
Elementary First Aid (EFA)- obtained within the last 12 months
Must live in Darwin on a permanent basis.
