Lawyer (HASS) – Chief Operating Officer Portfolio
Type: Full-time. Salary: $125,191 – $135,504 per annum plus 17% superannuation.
This role is well suited to a lawyer with around 3 years post‑qualification experience who is looking to make their first in‑house move. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced in‑house lawyers to provide practical, solution‑focused legal advice across HASS activities including teaching, student, research and engagement matters.
Responsibilities
Provide clear, practical legal advice across a range of HASS matters, including education, research, philanthropy and engagement activities.
Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements with education and research partners.
Take increasing ownership of day‑to‑day legal matters, with guidance on more complex issues.
Develop effective working relationships with academic and skilled staff.
Contribute to team knowledge sharing and process improvements.
Qualifications
Around 3 years’ post‑qualification experience, ideally in private practice.
Current Victorian Practising Certificate (or equivalent qualification).
Experience in commercial contracting and/or exposure to IP, trusts, privacy or administrative law.
Strong drafting skills and attention to detail.
Practical,
solutions‑focused mindset and interest in developing an in‑house skillset.
Strong communication skills and ability to work with non‑legal stakeholders.
Valuable judgement and willingness to seek guidance where appropriate.
