Position Purpose:
The Case Worker (Family Services) provides direct, strengths-based support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to strengthen family functioning, build protective factors, and improve outcomes for children and young people.
Working as part of RAATSIC's Family Services team, the Case Worker carries a mixed caseload of families with varying levels of need, delivering culturally safe, trauma-informed support across early intervention, family preservation, and general family wellbeing contexts.
Operating under supervision and within established frameworks, the Case Worker engages families holistically - assessing need, developing goal-focused case plans, coordinating services, and providing practical and emotional support to help families thrive.
The role requires a genuine commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self-determination, community-controlled service delivery, and the wellbeing of children and families.
About You:
Ability to build trusting, culturally safe relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, including those experiencing vulnerability, adversity, or crisis
Sound understanding of strengths-based and trauma-informed practice,
with the ability to apply these approaches across a mixed family support caseload
Ability to conduct family needs assessments, develop goal-focused case plans, and monitor progress against identified outcomes
Working knowledge of child and family wellbeing frameworks and relevant Queensland legislation, including the Child Protection Act **** and the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act ****
Ability to identify and respond appropriately to risk and safety concerns, including child protection and domestic and family violence, in accordance with legislative and organisational obligations
Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage an active caseload and competing priorities effectively
Proficiency in accurate and timely case noting, reporting, and client information management
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with families, community members, and external service providers with sensitivity and professionalism
Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team under supervision
Commitment to professional development, reflective practice, and continuous improvement in service delivery
