About the Role
The Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) is a key clinical leadership role within the Mental Health Unit at Matilda Nepean.
Working in partnership with the Nurse Unit Manager, the ANUM provides operational and clinical leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centred care across inpatient and day program services.
This role is pivotal in supporting a positive team culture, maintaining clinical standards, and ensuring the effective day-to-day coordination of the unit.
Strong leaders with management potential will be considered without Mental Health experience.
Key Responsibilities
Provide visible, supportive clinical leadership across the Mental Health Unit.
Coordinate daily operations including staffing allocation, patient flow,



and clinical oversight.
Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, and hospital policies.
Support clinical governance processes including incident management, risk mitigation and quality improvement initiatives.
Act as a clinical escalation point for complex presentations and support staff in decision-making.
Foster robust multidisciplinary collaboration with psychiatrists, VMOs, allied health, and external providers.
Promote a culture of trauma-informed, recovery-oriented and person-centred care.
Support workforce development through supervision, mentoring, education and performance management.
Contribute to service development initiatives and ongoing evaluation of patient outcomes and experience.
As part of the broader Mental Health leadership portfolio, the ANUM will also support oversight of specialised neurostimulation therapies, including ECT, TMS and Esketamine.
This includes contributing to safe clinical coordination, maintaining quality and safety standards, and liaising with relevant VMOs and clinical teams.
The successful applicant will demonstrate strong clinical expertise in mental health nursing, sound operational management skills, and the ability to lead with professionalism, accountability and compassion.
