Primary HV Electrical Design Engineer - Renewables & HV Infrastructure | Brisbane
SPD is expanding, and we're seeking a Primary HV Electrical Design Engineer to support the delivery of major renewable energy and high-voltage infrastructure projects across Australia and New Zealand.

About the Role
Based in our Brisbane office, you will lead the technical delivery, coordination and verification of primary electrical designs across solar, wind, BESS, substation (MV/HV/EHV) and transmission projects.
You'll work across HV/MV/LV systems, primary systems, collector networks, BESS integration and detailed technical studies — ensuring designs are safe, compliant, constructible and aligned with SPD's ISO-aligned QMS and design control processes.
Key Responsibilities
Delivering HV/MV primary electrical system designs
Preparing SLDs, layouts, cable design and HV equipment specifications
Performing load flow, fault level, protection coordination, arc flash, earthing and insulation studies
Ensuring compliance with AS/NZS standards, IEC frameworks and NSP/TNSP requirements
Coordinating interfaces with civil, structural, secondary system, SCADA and transmission teams
Applying ISO-aligned design assurance processes and participating in DRB reviews
Supporting procurement, vendor reviews, FAT/SAT activities and construction/commissioning
Engaging with clients, Owner's Engineers, NSPs/TNSPs and project stakeholders
About You
Mandatory
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
7-12+ years' experience in electrical design
RPEQ (or equivalent)
Experience in renewable energy, substations and transmission infrastructure
Chartered (CPEng) or working towards
Experience with NSP/TNSP standards and grid connection requirements
EPC/EPCM or Owner's Engineer project environments
Technical Strengths
HV/MV electrical systems
Preparing SLDs, layouts, cable design and HV equipment specifications
Grid connection requirements
Power system analysis tools (PowerFactory, PSS®E, PSCAD)
Australian Standards, IEC standards and utility requirements
