Solution Architect
12 Month MTC
Martin
Place, Sydney CBD
Hybrid (3 days in-office)
About the role
Challenger is in the middle of a genuine technology uplift; Several concurrent programmes, external partner integrations, and a modernisation agenda that is generating real architecture work.
Not governance for governance's sake.
Actual design, actual decisions, actual delivery.
We're looking for an end-to-end Solution Architect to join a small architecture function with broad scope and strong visibility.
You'll hold context across a portfolio of high-priority initiatives, make decisions that stick, and produce architecture artefacts to a high standard from day one.
For the right person, this is a role with real ownership.
You'll be close to the work, close to decision-making, and able to see the impact of your thinking play out across the business.
What you'll be doing
Designing and producing High Level Solution Architectures (HLSAs) and review low-level designs across multiple programmes
Making and documenting key technology decisions that unblock delivery teams and reduce downstream rework
Partnering with Product Owners, engineers, and delivery teams to keep solutions practical, scalable and aligned to business outcomes
Representing Challenger in technical discussions with external partners
Managing technology vendor relationships and keeping partner delivery on track
Identifying and managing technical debt and interdependency risks across overlapping workstreams
Ensuring solutions meet governance, cybersecurity,
privacy and data standards
Contributing to the enterprise architecture direction and reference architecture where relevant
Participating in the Architecture Review Board and supporting governance across solutions, designs and decision
What you'll bring
This role is genuinely hands-on - around 90% end-to-end solution architecture, not enterprise strategy or target-state roadmaps.
Financial services or other relevant regulated industry experience (medical, defence etc.)
End-to-end solution architecture capability; business, application, information, integration, infrastructure and non-functional - you're comfortable owning the whole picture, not just one layer of it
A track record working across complex delivery environments: SDLC, multiple concurrent initiatives, external technology partners
Strong stakeholder communication skills - you can translate complexity for non-technical audiences and guide decisions with senior leaders
Sound commercial and architectural judgement, comfortable weighing trade-offs and making pragmatic calls
Broad enterprise technology and IT landscape knowledge
Nice to have
Exposure to investment, life insurance or front office systems
TOGAF certification or equivalent
Enterprise architecture experience aligned to technology strategy
