We are seeking a positive and dynamic
Peer Mentor
to join our existing Team.
Location: Cairns/Innisfail - Fulltime
This position provides individualised support to people ******* with disabilities.
We aim to mentor people towards their plan goals using a holistic and trauma informed framework. We wish to help increase confidence and self-belief so clients may identify and work towards goals aligned to their future; that may include life skills. further education, volunteering and employment.
We are seeking a Mentor who has experience to deliver and engage in a holistic and trauma informed manner that includes addressing emotional, physical and practical skills that increase everyone's capacity so that they may choose the directions they wish to take and lead to successful engagement of that choice in their chosen area.
The perfect fit for our team is someone who can build rapport with people from diverse backgrounds, someone who is confident and fun, has exceptional communication and interpersonal skills that include conflict resolution.
Knowledge of NDIS may be advantageous but not critical.
Key responsibilities:
Supporting participants to build capacity & confidence across multiple areas.
Work with participants to identify and set practical and achievable goals
Transitioning participants from school and/or disengagement to employment ready
Mentoring participants to identify and overcome barriers to maintainingemployment.
Support participants to determine their needs and mentor them to maximiseengagement and progress towards goals
Keep accurate and complete records of activities and communicate relevant information as required
Required skills:
Youth / disability / community support work experience
A sound understanding of disability,
trauma and the effect on social relationships, vocational and
employment needs
Experience with trauma informed practice, application, and delivery.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work autonomously and with initiative
C class driving license and access to a reliable and suitable vehicle
Current First Aid and CPR
Sound digital literacy skills utilising different software platforms for reporting as well as Microsoft 365
Word/Excel & Outlook)
