Jem Archaeology is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated
Archaeologist
to join our team.
In this role, you'll contribute to diverse Aboriginal and historical heritage projects across Victoria through fieldwork, reporting, project activities, artefact analysis, and stakeholder engagement under the guidance of experienced archaeologists.
Combining technical execution with professional development, you'll help deliver high-quality heritage assessments and compliance outcomes while building your expertise across a broad range of heritage projects. You'll work closely with clients, Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs), Traditional Owners, and internal teams to support practical, heritage-positive outcomes and contribute to the continued growth of our business.

We are looking for:
Degree qualified in Archaeology, with Honours or postgraduate preferred
Experience in Aboriginal and/or historical archaeology projects within Victoria.
Working understanding of Victorian Aboriginal cultural heritage legislation and compliance requirements.
Current Heritage Advisor status, eligibility to become listed, or demonstrated progression toward Heritage Advisor status will be highly regarded.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Experience assisting with archaeological fieldwork including survey, subsurface testing, salvage excavation, Aboriginal and historical site recording, and use of DGPS equipment.
Experience or knowledge of CHMPs, heritage assessments, due diligence reports, and other heritage documentation.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, clients, RAPs, Traditional Owners,



and project teams.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
Participating in Aboriginal and historical heritage projects across Victoria.
Undertaking archaeological survey, excavation, subsurface testing, salvage activities, and site recording.
Completing artefact analysis, interpretation, and associated project tasks.
Preparing and contributing to Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs), due diligence assessments, Letters of Advice, heritage assessments, salvage reports, and other heritage documentation.
Application of Victorian heritage legislation, policy, and regulatory requirements to project work.
Liaising professionally with Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs), Traditional Owners, clients, and internal project teams.
