Hydraulic Consultant (Plumbing Design) – Mid-Level & Senior Staff
Axis Consulting Services (ACS) ,the hydraulic design and engineering division of the Axis Services Group (Axis Plumbing)is a national hydraulic design consultancy delivering high-quality building services solutions to major contractors, developers, and suppliers across Australia.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking Mid-Level and Senior Hydraulic Consultants to join our team and support the delivery of technically complex and high-profile projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for motivated hydraulic designers/engineers looking to step into a role with strong mentorship, exposure to Tier 1 projects, and genuine long-term career progression.
The Role (Role Summary)
Reporting to our Hydraulic Design Team Operations Manager, you will contribute to the design and delivery of hydraulic (plumbing) systems across a range of building types.
You will work across multiple project stages, supporting both design development and documentation while collaborating closely with internal teams and external stakeholders.
This role suits someone who is technically capable, proactive, and ready to take ownership of project packages while continuing to build capability under experienced leaders.
Key Responsibilities
Design hydraulic (plumbing) systems for residential, commercial, and industrial developments.
Complete hydraulic calculations for water services, sanitary drainage, stormwater, trade waste, and related systems.
Assist with system sizing, layout coordination, and design optimisation.
Ensure designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, NCC requirements, and local authority regulations.
Coordinate with architects, mechanical engineers, fire services, and structural teams to integrate services into building designs.
Provide clear mark-ups and technical direction to drafting and modelling teams (CAD/Revit environment).
Support design reviews, issue resolution, and responses to contractor/site queries.
Contribute to quality assurance, documentation standards, and continuous improvement.
Maintain awareness of current industry standards, compliance changes, and emerging technologies.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in hydraulic/plumbing design within a building services consultancy environment.
Working knowledge of key standards such as AS/NZS ****, NCC, and relevant authority requirements.
Strong capability in pipe sizing, system design, and hydraulic calculation methodology.
Experience working across design and documentation phases.
The ability to communicate clearly with internal teams, clients, and contractors.
Qualifications
One or more of the following qualifications are preferred: Trade background with strong design consulting experience will also be considered.
Diploma / Advanced Diploma in Hydraulic
Engineering degree (Civil, Mechanical, or Building Services).
Preferred Skills (Highly Regarded)
Experience on Tier 1 contractor-led projects or major health, infrastructure,
and commercial builds.
Exposure to Revizto, Navisworks, and other 3D coordination software.
Confidence reviewing contractor submissions and responding to RFIs.
Strong attention to detail and documentation quality.
