ABOUT G&H;

At G&H;, engineering isn't separated from construction, it drives it.

We are a specialist Design & Construct contractor delivering technically challenging basement and geotechnical projects where engineering decisions have a direct impact on project success. Our team takes ownership from concept through to completion, giving our engineers the opportunity to influence methodology, value engineering, procurement and construction outcomes, not simply review drawings from behind a desk.

As a growing business, we offer something many larger organisations cannot: the opportunity to make a genuine impact. Your ideas will be heard, your systems will be implemented, and your technical leadership will help shape how we deliver projects for years to come.

This is not a role where you'll inherit a mature engineering department with rigid processes. Instead, you'll have the opportunity to build best-practice engineering systems, mentor the next generation of Project Engineers, strengthen our Design & Construct capability and play a key role in the continued growth of the business.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Engineering & Design Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating the engineering function across all Design & Construct projects for both, permanent and Temporary Works Designs (Piling, D-Wall).

The role exists to ensure engineering supports project delivery, not delays it.

You will own the complete engineering workflow from tender through to project completion, coordinating external consultants, supporting Project Engineers, driving design programmes, managing design changes and implementing engineering systems that improve consistency across the business.

This is a senior, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys solving problems, mentoring engineers and building systems rather than simply managing consultants from behind a desk.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Engineering Keeps Pace with Construction

Engineering design is planned, coordinated and delivered in accordance with, or ahead of the construction programme.

Success Means:

Design never becomes the critical path.Required design inputs are obtained early and proactively.Consultants are managed to agreed timeframes.Peer reviews are coordinated where required.Reinforcement cage and structural steel shop drawings, fabrication and procurement commence without unnecessary delay.Construction crews always have the most current revision of design information required to continue work.

Every Project Starts Well

The engineering component of every new project is established in a structured, organised manner.

Success Means:

Design deliverables are identified from day one.Design programmes are established.Design tracking registers are implemented.Shop drawing approval processes are established.Procurement tracking systems are in place.Project Engineers understand the engineering roadmap before construction begins.

Project Engineers Are Well Supported

Project Engineers have an experienced technical partner throughout project delivery.

Success Means:

Engineers receive practical advice when required.Technical issues are resolved quickly.RFIs and design queries are coordinated efficiently.Constructability issues are identified early.Engineers gain confidence and technical capability with every project.

The objective is not simply to solve today's problems, but to develop better engineers for tomorrow.

Design Changes Are Managed

Design changes are inevitable on Design & Construct projects.

Success Means:

Drawing revisions are identified immediately.Design changes are communicated clearly.Project teams understand the practical implications.Commercial opportunities and variations are identified early.Engineers have the technical information required to support contractual claims.

G&H; Has an Outstanding Technical Reputation

The Engineering & Design Manager becomes the trusted technical representative of G&H.;

Success Means:

Clients have confidence in our engineering capability.Consultants enjoy working with our team.Problems are solved collaboratively.Communication is professional and proactive.Technical leadership strengthens our reputation and helps secure future work.

Engineering Systems Continue to Improve

Every project should improve the way the next project is delivered.

Success Means:

Standard engineering workflows are developed.Design templates are continually improved.Temporary works procedures are standardised.Design input checklists are created.Consultant briefing documents become more consistent.Engineering knowledge is documented rather than remaining with individuals.

Over time, this role will develop and maintain G&H;'s Engineering Design Management Manual, documenting the complete engineering lifecycle from tender through to project completion and supporting the company's Quality Management System and ISO accreditation.

Technical Input Helps Win Projects

Engineering begins well before construction.
