Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health service. Servicing the communities of Cape York, with the main office is located in Cairns, Apunipima delivers public health care, and social and emotional well-being care, to community members. Being a part of the team at Apunipima means helping us deliver essential services as well as building capacity in communities to manage their own health care needs.

About the Opportunity
The Community Development Officer is responsible for the coordinating and implementing the Apunipima community engagement strategy and processes to support promotion of the organisation and its services. The position also supports the ongoing development of Health Action Teams.
About you:
To be successful in the role you will need;
Demonstrated experience in community development and stakeholder engagement, including working collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, communities, organisations, and service providers to achieve positive outcomes.
Proven ability to build the capacity of individuals and groups through mentoring, training, consultation, and the delivery of initiatives that support sustainable community outcomes.
Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work respectfully and effectively within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural protocols and customs.
Strong understanding of the historical and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities,



particularly the importance of self-determination, cultural safety, and community-led decision-making.
Highly organised and adaptable qualified with the ability to prioritise competing demands, meet deadlines, and travel extensively throughout Cape York, including by 4WD and light aircraft, to support community engagement and service delivery.
Mandatory Requirement:
Current Queensland Drivers Licence
Blue Card (Working with Children Card)
Australian Federal Police Check
Desirable
Qualification in Community Development or Community Services.
