Vision Centre Gold Coast is seeking a detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant. Your primary responsibilities will be coordinating the doctor's daily clinic flow and providing accurate medical scribing during patient examinations. This is a
casual position
, which can lead to permanent part-time for the right candidate. The role offers flexibility whilst providing essential support to our ophthalmology practice. In this role, you will be instrumental in delivering exceptional patient care and ensuring smooth operational efficiency within our clinic. You will work alongside experienced ophthalmologists, playing a vital role in enhancing the patient experience and supporting clinical staff in delivering quality eye care services.
Key responsibilities
Greeting patients upon arrival and conducting preliminary assessments, including vision screening and eye pressure measurements
Maintain efficient clinic flow and manage doctor schedules
Assisting ophthalmologists during clinical examinations and procedures.
Preparing examination rooms and sterilising ophthalmic equipment in accordance with infection control protocols
Recording patient medical histories and maintaining accurate clinical documentation
Performing administrative tasks including appointment scheduling, patient record management and processing patient enquiries
Communicate clearly with patients regarding their appointment flow.
Maintaining a clean and professional clinic environment
Assisting with inventory management of ophthalmic supplies and equipment
What we're looking for
Previous experience as an ophthalmic assistant or medical scribe preferred
Knowledge of basic ophthalmic terminology, equipment and procedures
Excellent typing speed and electronic medical records (EMR) literacy




Robust communication skills with the ability to interact compassionately with patients of all ages
Meticulous attention to detail and excellent organisational abilities
Proficiency in electronic medical record systems and general computer applications
Ability to work flexibly within a casual employment framework and adapt to varying clinic demands
A commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to healthcare regulations
