JMC Academy Sydney
Contract position | 3 timetabled hours per week | 12-week trimester
JMC Academy is seeking an experienced audio electronics qualified to teach
ASP415 Applied Electronics
at our Sydney campus.
This position would suit an audio technician, electronics engineer, equipment designer, repair specialist or technically minded audio professional who enjoys sharing their expertise with emerging audio practitioners.
About the unit
Applied Electronics introduces students to the circuit designs used in professional audio equipment and explores how different electronic components and circuit topologies influence sound.
Students develop practical skills in advanced soldering, circuit construction, testing, maintenance and fault-finding. They also learn to make informed equipment choices based on the sonic characteristics required for different production scenarios.
Topics include:
Resistors, capacitors and inductors
Transformers and power supplies
Soldering techniques and semiconductor components
Transistors, diodes and triodes
Audio equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
Operational amplifiers and circuit analysis
Construction, testing and fault-finding of an electronic audio device
About the role
The successful applicant will deliver one three-hour class each week across a 12-week trimester. Responsibilities will include:
Delivering engaging theoretical and practical classes
Demonstrating soldering,



circuit construction and testing techniques
Explaining electronic concepts in a way that is accessible to audio students
Supervising students as they build and test an electronic device
Supporting students with troubleshooting and fault-finding
Providing feedback and assessing student work in accordance with the unit requirements
Maintaining a safe and inclusive practical learning environment
About you
We are looking for someone who has:
Strong knowledge of analogue electronic circuits used in audio equipment
Practical experience with soldering, circuit construction, testing and repair
Confidence reading circuit diagrams and analysing audio circuits
Experience diagnosing faults in professional or consumer audio equipment
An understanding of how circuit design and component choices can affect sonic character
Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical ideas clearly
A patient, supportive and practical approach to working with students
Previous teaching, training or mentoring experience is desirable but not essential. Applicants with substantial professional or industry experience who are interested in developing their teaching skills are encouraged to apply.
Relevant qualifications in electronics, electrical engineering, audio engineering or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
Contract details
Contractor engagement for one 12-week trimester
Three timetabled teaching hours per week
Face-to-face delivery at JMC Academy's Sydney campus
Potential for repeat teaching contracts in future trimesters for the right person
