We're seeking an experienced
Health and Safety Manager – Orchards
to play a key role in delivering our health and safety roadmap across our orchard operations. Reporting to the Chief People, Safety and Culture Officer, you'll partner with operational leaders to implement our safety strategy, strengthen leadership capability and embed a proactive safety culture across a diverse and geographically dispersed workforce.
This role is ideally based in Shepparton, in the Goulburn Valley, with regular travel to our orchard operations in Tasmania, Swan Hill, Mildura and Narre Warren. It's a highly visible, hands‐on role that spends significant time partnering with leaders and teams in the field to support safe, high‐performing operations.

We're continuing to invest in our people, strengthen our safety systems and implement a new enterprise‐wide Safety Management System. You'll play a pivotal role in bringing this roadmap to life—partnering with leaders to build their capability, embed consistent safety practices and successfully implement new systems and ways of working.
Working across a large and diverse workforce that includes permanent employees, seasonal workers and participants in the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme, you'll help create a consistent, practical and inclusive approach to health and safety that supports our people across every orchard.
This is more than a compliance role. It's an prospect to influence how safety is led across the business—coaching leaders, building accountability and fostering a culture where safety is integrated into everyday decision‐making and operational excellence.
About the Role
As the Health and Safety Manager – Orchards, you will:




Partner with Orchard Managers and operational leaders to implement Montague Farms' Health and Safety roadmap across all orchard operations.
Spend significant time in the orchards coaching, mentoring and supporting leaders to build confidence, capability and accountability in health and safety leadership.
Lead the implementation, adoption and continuous improvement of our new Safety Management System, ensuring it becomes embedded in everyday operations.
Continue to develop and improve our health and safety systems, processes and reporting frameworks to support a growing and geographically dispersed business.
Build a positive, proactive safety culture where leaders own safety outcomes and continuous improvement is part of everyday operations.
Support leaders in identifying and managing risk through practical risk assessments, workplace inspections and proactive safety initiatives.
Lead incident investigations, identify trends and ensure meaningful corrective actions are implemented.
Monitor changes to health and safety legislation and ensure ongoing compliance across our orchard operations.
Develop meaningful reporting and insights that enable leaders to make informed decisions and improve safety performance.
Build strong relationships with operational leaders, employees and external stakeholders to support collaboration and continuous improvement.
About You
You're an experienced safety professional who understands that sustainable safety performance comes from capable leaders, engaged teams and practical systems.
You enjoy partnering with operational leaders, influencing change and helping others succeed.



You're equally comfortable coaching leaders in the field, facilitating conversations around risk and contributing to broader organisational initiatives that strengthen safety performance.
You'll bring:
Demonstrated experience in a Health and Safety leadership role within agriculture, food manufacturing, logistics or another operational environment.
Experience coaching and influencing leaders to build capability and improve safety performance.
Proven experience implementing and embedding safety management systems or leading organisational change initiatives.
Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and contemporary health and safety practices.
Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and relationship‐building skills.
Strong investigation, problem‐solving and analytical capability.
Relevant qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety or a related discipline.
A willingness to travel regularly across our orchard operations in Victoria and Tasmania.
