Basketball NSW is looking for an experienced and energetic leader to take charge of our competitions portfolio as Head of Competitions & Leagues.
This is a management role at the heart of what we do: overseeing the planning and delivery of junior and senior state competitions acrossNSW, leading a dedicated team, and building the relationships that make our leagues thrive.
You'll work closely with member associations,Basketball Australia, NBL/NBL1, and the Waratah Advisory Committee to ensure every stakeholder experiences basketball at its best.

Basketball NSW (BNSW) is the governing body for basketball in New South Wales, responsible for growing and developing the sport at every level, from local associations and school programs through to elite state competitions.
With over 89,000 registered members, a network of affiliated associations across the state, and ambitious plans under our ********* Strategic Framework, BNSW is in an exciting period of growth.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Lead the Competitions Portfolio
Plan, deliver, and continuously improve all junior and senior state‐level competitions across NSW.
Drive participation growth by executing strategies from the Competitions Review.




Oversee end‐to‐end competition delivery: scheduling, logistics, fixture integrity, meetings, and reporting.
Champion BNSW rules of operation and FIBA rules, ensuring consistent application across the sport.
Lead and Develop Your Team
Inspire and manage a team of competitions and league staff, program managers, and volunteers.
Set clear objectives, manage performance, and foster an inclusive, high‐performing team culture.
Support your team through league meetings, approving agendas and materials, and facilitating professional growth.
Manage Stakeholder Relationships
Build and maintain strong partnerships with member associations, Basketball Australia, NBL, and internal teams.
Facilitate the Waratah Advisory Committee (WAC), ensuring transparency and balanced representation.
Represent BNSW at NBL1 meetings and relevant Basketball Australia forums.
Maintain an active presence at league events, rounds, and finals.
Drive Governance and Financial Oversight
Approve competition budgets, monitor expenditure, and analyse financial reports via Xero.
Collaborate on the development of and reviewing policies and operational frameworks to enhance league delivery.




Manage escalated complaints and ensure exceptional service and issue resolution.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Demonstrated experience in a competition or event management, or sports operations role.
Strong leadership skills with a track record of building and managing high‐performing teams.
Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills across a broad network.
Deep understanding of competition structures, scheduling, and basketball administration.
Financial literacy and experience with budget management; Xero experience desirable.
Solid knowledge of FIBA rules and the NSW/Australian basketball landscape.
A collaborative, solutions‐focused approach with high attention to detail.
Experience in a not‐for‐profit or member‐based organisation is an advantage.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in sports management, business, or a related field (desirable).
REQUIREMENTS
Valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) or willingness to obtain prior to commencement.
Valid Australian Driver's Licence.
Right to work in Australia – Australian or Current Zealand Citizen, or Australian Permanent Resident
