Female Disability Support Worker | Thornleigh
Ongoing regular shifts
Nextt is seeking an experienced and resilient FEMALE Disability Support Worker to provide ongoing support to a 63-year-old male participant living in Thornleigh.
Due to the participant's personal care needs and preferences, this position is open to FEMALE applicants only.
About the Participant
The participant previously lived on a farm and values his independence, privacy and personal space.
He is non-verbal and communicates through body language, gestures and drawings.
The successful Support Worker will need to be patient, observant and willing to take the time to understand what he is communicating without rushing him.
It is significant to ask permission before touching his belongings, entering his room or assisting with cleaning.
The participant may sometimes use blunt words and display behaviours of concern.
Support Workers must be emotionally resilient, calm and confident in maintaining respectful professional boundaries.
He also has a large Labrador.
Applicants must be comfortable around large dogs and willing to assist the participant with the dog's daily care.
Shifts
Monday to Friday: 8:00am–2:00pm
Monday to Sunday: 5:00pm–8:00pm
Applicants with consistent availability across multiple shifts will be highly regarded.
About the Role
Support may include:
Supporting communication using body language, gestures and drawings
Providing respectful personal care and daily living assistance
Supporting the participant while maintaining his privacy, choice and control
Transporting the participant to medical appointments and community activities




Supporting positive behaviour strategies and managing challenging interactions calmlyAssisting the participant to care for his Labrador
Completing clear and accurate shift documentation
Building a consistent, trusting and professional relationship
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
Patient, resilient and emotionally mature
Reliable, punctual and consistent
Calm and confident when responding to behaviours of concern
Respectful of personal boundaries, belongings and private spaces
Comfortable supporting a non-verbal participant
Able to observe and understand non-verbal communication
Comfortable working around and caring for a large dog
Confident driving the participant to medical appointments
Committed to person-centred and respectful support
Previous experience supporting participants with complex communication needs or behaviours of concern is highly desirable.
Pay Rates
E3.1 (Casual in home and SIL)
SCHADS Award E3.1 Casual Rates (before tax):
Base hourly rate: $*****
Afternoon shift (shift ends between 8pm and midnight, Monday to Friday): $*****
Active Night shift (Finishes after midnight or starts before 6am, Monday to Friday)$*****
Saturday: $*****
Sunday: $*****
Public holiday: $*****
Certificates and Licences
Applicants must hold:
Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
Current Working with Children Check - Employee
Australian driver's licence/ Valid international or oversees licence
Comprehensive vehicle insurance
NDIS Orientation Module – Quality, Safety and You
Current First Aid and CPR certificates
All employees must comply with applicable mandatory directives in the state or territory where they work.
