Newly created Senior Project Accountant role to partner the Operations and Delivery team
Rapidly expanding Australian ASX-listed miner undergoing a series of acquisitions and construction projects
Sydney CBD-based, paying $150k - $160k + super + discretionary bonus
Company Background
Our client is an ASX-listed precious metal miner that is about to enter its long-anticipated production phase at the end of ****.
Holding 100% owned and operated assets in Australia, they are headquartered in Sydney and are looking to establish a strong, motivated finance team.
As part of their rapid project scale-up, they are strengthening the Finance team through a number of key hires.
The Role
Reporting to the Financial Controller and partnering with the Delivery and Development team, this role will initially lay the budgeting and reporting framework for their transition to construction.
Building strong, productive relationships with the Development and Delivery team will be critical in this roles' success.
Maintain project cost ledgers and ensure costs areaccuratelyallocated across projects.
Lead project-related month-end closing activities.
Prepare monthly project financial reports, including budget-versus-actual analysis.
Develop, monitor, and challenge cost-to-complete forecasts.
Track project commitments and expenditure.
Review and oversee supplier and consultant invoices.
Initially process accounts payable tasks directly and later supervise the Accounts Payable Officer.
Ensure project expenditure is accurately coded, processed on time, and properly controlled.
Contribute to finance reporting packs for senior management.
Analyse project performance, cost drivers, risks, and opportunities.
Work with the Finance Manager, operations, and project teams to support decision-making.
Identify potential financial risks and improvement opportunities.
Help design and implement scalable finance processes, controls, systems, and reporting improvements.
Support the CFO and VP Finance with ad hoc analysis and strategic projects.
Assist with finance-function improvement initiatives.
Support half-year and year-end audits.
Your Background
To be considered for the role, our client is targeting a candidate who is genuinely excited to establish themselves in a newly created Senior Project Accountant role.
Best placed to make this role successful, our client is considering two options:
Experience in a Project / Analyst role with strong understanding of project accounting, budgeting, and forecasting.
Exposure to heavy CAPEX workplace such as utilities, engineering, mining or construction.
First-time mover Chartered Audit.
Importantly, they will have a curious mindset and will be genuinely excited about the opportunity to establish, then build out the project finance function.
