Proudly serving the South East Qld community since ****, Kummara provides emergency support, counselling, family support and assistance in the field of child protection, health and wellbeing to local Indigenous and non-Indigenous families in South East Qld. We work in partnership with a number of government and community organisations across South East Queensland to improve the health and well-being of our communities.
We are currently seeking a Full Time Family Support Practitioner within our Helping Families Connect Program.
Position Summary
The role will be responsible for delivering quality services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, families, and the community; providing case management in the regions of Brisbane South, Redlands and Ipswich; utilising existing and fostering new partnerships with schools, the community, other agencies and professionals to ensure the family's needs are met and create opportunities and pathways for positive family functioning, community connectedness, social learning, positive health and wellbeing and school engagement.
Key Duties:
Provide a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and children 'outside the school gate' to support the families, in a culturally appropriate way to foster engagement and participation in their children's education,
Work within a cultural framework that values traditional and contemporary healing practices, to enable engagement with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in ways that help parents, families resolve difficulties and problems.




Maintain a child centred and family focused stance with the aim of developing and empowering families to be in a position to help others through community development projects/activities/events.
Identify and support families with relevant and appropriate information and resources to enable them to have choice in how they address their needs and engage with education professionals.
Provide therapeutic service delivery using the Family Partnership Model (FPM) as the foundation for practice.
Maintain positive relationships with schools and educational facilities, government/non-government and community organisations to enhance collaboration and integrated approaches.
Facilitate cultural programs in an educational setting
What we're looking for:
Relevant qualifications in human services, counselling, psychology or a related discipline
Demonstrated experience in the community services sector, particularly in the areas of family support and youth engagement
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse client groups
Proficiency in case management, including assessment, intervention planning and outcomes monitoring.
Commitment to the principles of family-centred practice and a strengths-based approach
Mandatory
Queensland Provisional Green or above Driver's License.
Ability to obtain positive notice in the Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and any other legislatively required personal history screening as required.
