About the role
Join Biosecurity Tasmania as a Seasonal Biosecurity Inspector and contribute to targeted inspection, surveillance and compliance activities focused on high-risk host materials for pests from infiltrating Tasmania's borders.
You will help safeguard our unique environment and agricultural industries with a primary focus on reducing biosecurity risks and seeing our mission aligned to propel Tasmania's agriculture sector towards a $10 billion-dollar future by ****.
We are looking for people who are naturally curious, observant and proactive, with strong attention to detail and the ability to make sound decisions in a agile operational environment.
In this role, you will:
Undertake and report on biosecurity inspections, surveillance, control, and eradication activities.
Collect, maintain and accurately record operational data and inspection information to support regulatory and operational outcomes.
Investigate suspected breaches of biosecurity legislation and undertake compliance and enforcement activities.
Assist in the delivery of biosecurity and animal welfare emergency responses.
This is a fixed-term seasonal role based in Launceston, offering guaranteed minimum hours aligned with operational demand:
0.4 FTE (29.4 hours per fortnight) from October to March




0.1 FTE (7.35 hours per fortnight) from April to September
Additional hours may be available during peak operational periods and emergency response activities.
Our ideal candidate has
Knowledge of, or the ability to acquire knowledge of biosecurity, animal welfare, product integrity or regulatory compliance practices and legislation.
A professional, adaptable and team-focused approach.
Sound judgement, initiative and problem-solving skills.
A commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity, safety and customer service.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to confidently relay important information to diverse audiences.
Position requirements
Current motor vehicle licence.
Pre-employment Conviction Check.
